Rosemary's Baby Remake

NBC should have continued to air Believe and Crisis in their regular time slots on Sunday and air Rosemary's Baby on two consecutive Thursday nights.

Other than The Blacklist, NBC had a very rough year when it came to new scripted programs. I suppose they could always make a Chicago Medical, but wouldn't that just be an ER reboot?

Wow, just watched it on HULU. My dear lord what a projectile crapfest! Everyone was miscast and the direction, just horrible!

Obviously the screenwriter and director had NO IDEA what made the original so successful. The joy of the old film was in the fact that Rosemary's fears were completely deniable- those wacky old people were obviously harmless, she was clearly paranoid, everything was innocent- and you gradually come to the horror. This started with a gruesome suicide and boasted something 'spooky' or 'creepy' ever two minutes or so. The bloody elimination of Guy's rival was particularly pointless- especially compared to the original.

Joe, I so agree with you! The brilliance of the original film (and novel) as a study in paranoia! Ruth Gordon as the eccentric next door neighbor that takes on a very sinister vibe, the missing paintings on the walls of the Castevets apartment that are apart of Rosemary's rape scene that are later replaced when she walks through the closet. All brilliant direction and story telling.
This piece of sh*t isn't worth it's time-slot.

I have a lot of mixed feelings. I feel that remakes are pointless if they are a carbon-copy of the original; and in this case, they were best not to replicate the Polanski film. While in certain respects it is scarier (and certainly bloodier), I think that the Satanism is entirely too blatant. The art of Ira Levin's suspense in films such as Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives was that it happened off-screen, and here it is completely obvious.

I also am still confused in the choice to set it in Paris. While they make it work, and certainly makes it more realistic that Rosemary and Guy are young foreigners who has no choice to buy into the Casavets' offers, I'm just not sure it all around works. I am also really not crazy about the blatant homoerotic relationship between Rosemary and Margaux. I miss Ruth Gordan.

Last night I netflixed the original film. What a masterpiece! It still holds up and the chase at the end in the elevator still has me on the edge of my seat!

I've read interviews with the "creatives" (And with this film I use that word VERY loosely) and they all said they felt they had to move it to Paris to explain Rosemary's isolation and dependence on Guy which is really amusing as Guy is hardly present in the plot and not only does every one she encounter speak English but she's not in the least isolated or a fish out of water. It's like they didn't even watch their own film.

Rosemary's isolation in the first film wasn't due to the fact she had no friends, or was really a fish out of water. She did and even had a party for them. Her isolation was due to the subtle take over of their lives by those wacky next door neighbors. What first time mother wouldn't want the best doctor? Even her dear friend Hutch had two grandchildren delivered by this guy!
The slow realization of the conspiracy and Guy's competition shedding light on the swapping of personal items beautifully created the sense of paranoia that we shared with Rosemary.
There is absolutely NONE of this in this remake. Slit throats do not horror make.

I don't think there's any doubt that the original is a masterpiece and this remake is crappy. I sometimes watch crap on tv and it never takes away from my appreciation of the masterpieces.

One step ahead of you - I Netflixed it and just got finished watching. I was mesmerized just as I am each time I see it. This makes about 4 times.
