Will Maya Rudolph bring back the TV variety show?

I was looking forward to Maya's show. I did enjoy some segments. I caught myself smiling but just as quickly felt the smile fading away. Some of the funny skits suddenly fell flat. Not sure it was enough to make this a regular show.

Just watched it and liked it better then I thought I would have. Yes, some sketches fell flat, yes there was just too much of Sean Hayes and Andy Sandberg for my liking. A little goes a loooooooooong way with both of them for me. However I thought Maya was wonderful. She was funny charming and genuine.
They would need to retool the format a bit to make it work, tighten up the writing, the sketch to musical number ratio and maybe include a funny monologue or two.
It was nice to see Chris PArnell again. Thought the "I Love you " number was phenominal. Actually brought a tear to my eye. Hope NBC gives it a chance over the summer to develope. I do believe the Variety Show is due a comeback.

Ratings were good-ish, at least from what I read.

Funny you say that about Sean Hayes, SNAFU, because he annoyed me a lot less than he usually does!

Snafu - I really enjoyed the "I Love You" song. When I asked my mom what she thought of the show she hated that song saying it was dumb. Her favorite was the MAYA name song. Was curious about her impression because she is almost 70. When Jimmy Fallon took over the Tonight Show she was really vocal about hating him. Now I cannot think of a conversation with her that doesn't include Jimmy Fallon..."Did you see Jimmy last night? He is such a nut! He is SO funny!" Bringing it up cause I was curious how different generations react.

See I think Maya will play well with the geriatric crowd. That format has that 70's nostalgia feel which people like my Mom will love! Hell, I don't mind it either for mindless entertainment. No killing or bloodshed, just mind numbing fun.
Fallon has hit it off well with the older crowd! They were reluctant at first butnow that demographic has crossed over.

Phyllis, Hayes always annoys me. Could not watch Will and Grace after the pilot because of him.

It's probably just a personal thing for me... I could handles Hayes on Will and Grace (at least the early years before Karen and Jack truly started seeming like they were from some alien planet and in a different reality than the rest of the show) but whenever I see him playing more, well I assume, himself his clowning always comes off as so forced to me. Whereas with Maya (or many others) it seems charming and somehow genuine.
