Jordan, I LOVE Ghost World!!!

E: God what a bunch of retards!
R: God I know. I thought chipmunk face was never going to shut up.
E: I liked her so much better when she was an alcoholic crack addict. She gets in one car wreck and all of a sudden she's little miss perfect and everyone loves her.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Well, Muscle, I certainly didn't love it, but I wouldn't go as far to say I outright disliked it. I was disappointed, and at time bored. I was never moved or emotionally invested. I watched one clever thing after another.

I concur. Saw it on Saturday and felt bored, indifferent and increasingly cranky. Over two hours spent with cartoon characters and little girls, in an uncomfortable $139 seat.

There was no eye-candy to help me escape from this escapism...

Count me in. I was bored and disappointed. I had a thread about it. But the attacks on me got too vicious.

Dame's thread was probably deemed acceptable because it was a thread about not caring for something that he also disliked.

Definitely agree with Once a Month - and to make matters worse, the 5 year old sitting behind me repeatedly kicked the back of my seat (her mother clearly didn't care, when I said something, politely of course, during intermission, her response was "what do you want, she's 5!. My reply - "how about some better parenting!"

'Cause if you're little, you can do a lot, you
Mustn't let a little thing like 'little' stop you.
If you sit around and let them get on top, you
Won't change a thing.
Just because you find that life's not fair, it
Doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it.
If you always take it on the chin and wear it,
You might as well be saying you think that it's OK.
And that's not right.
And if it's not right, you have to put it right

I also had some girls sitting behind me that were teenagers and obvioulsy had never been to a B'way show and they seemed to miss the announcement: "If you want to have some candy, unwrap now!"

Anyways Dame, I think I actually read your thread, you said you also didn't like the other show you saw, what was it?
You are used to first rate shows, I'm not shocked you didn't care for this. I wish you had seen Newsies, Nice Work or Kinky Boots.

Kinky was the other one. But perhaps I was too harsh on that one. Not sure.. It is already forgotten. @Frontrow.. I detest self entitled parents. There would have been some non child appropriate words flying out of my mouth.

I thought Kinky was great fun. Not life-changing by any means but it was fun!

Seeing Dame or Frontrow telling that mother off would have been more fun than seeing Matilda.

As I've noted before, I have a predisposition NOT to like the show, critics say what they will. From the last few posts re: behavior of kids in the audience, it seems that the experience of going in itself is making the thought of going more and more distasteful.

I detest noisy audiences as much as the next theatergoer...but you ARE seeing MATILDA.

There will be children.

Thank you for this thread! I thought it was just me. I don't post much on here, but lurk.. However, I had to chime in here... I wanted so much to love this show.. I didn't. I found it long, boring, annoying, uninteresting.. And I love dark quirky shows.. I loved the cast, staging, sets, etc. just not the show.. And, interestingly enough, as a director I watch audiences during performances. If an audience gets fidgety, noisy, coughs a lot, talks a lot, finds their candy and drinks more important than they show, etc. I know there is a problem with the show that needs looking in to. With that said, we were there this past Saturday evening and the audience was the most noisy, fidgety, eating, drinking, talking audience I've ever sat with. Totally unengaged in the show.. However, the reviews so far are raves.. I just don't get it.. then again, I didn't like Phantom either and here we are 25 years later.. Oh well..

Felt the same way as some of you - liked it, but didn't love it. There were definitely some good songs and performances, but everyone is raving about it. Thought I was gonna get emotional (I'm a big mush), but I didn't. Made me feel like something was missing. I'd still recommend it to friends though.

"However, the reviews so far are raves.. I just don't get it.. "

It's simple. It's all about power: proving it, and asserting it. Show the public who's boss, make them bend to one's will, lure them in, and if they hate it, well, so be it.

It's been the same story three years in a row now...... and counting!
