IN THE HEIGHTS:
"He found something that he wanted, had always wanted and always would want— not to be admired, as he had feared; not to be loved, as he had made himself believe; but to be necessary to people, to be indispensable."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise

I'll have them clawing at eachother, like drag queens at a wig sale"
I agree, this is also my favorite thread! I personally really love the little mermaid's curtain. The design is simple but it fits the production, and I love the lighting behind it during the overture.
This a great thread.
Current Avatar:The sensational Aaron Tveit in the soon to be hit production of Catch Me If You Can.
I love Wicked's curtain. it gave me chills watching the dragon come to life and and the moneys coming out while the curtain glowed

Wow, In The Heights has a tiny playing space. It looks like a lot bigger in the different videos and stuff, but the actually playing space looks so tiny in that picture.
Well I'd expect Xanadu to have a tiny space, it's a tiny musical by comparison. Is the Rodger's stage just not that big? Or did the set design sort of take over?

If you look closely at the In the Heights picture, you can see that the bottom part is actually the railing at the front of the mezzanine which is covering up the front edge of the stage. So they actually have a little more room than it appears in that particular picture.
Oh thanks! Ha. I just thought that was the start of the orchestra pit. Well, back on topic, I love the South Pacific show curtain. It's really clever (and judging the pictures of the show), it suits the production perfectly.
What was the Cry-Baby curtain?

That's when you know a show is bad. I mean, look at High Fidelity - no creativity in the curtain, but the set was supposedly "brilliant."
Sweeney Todd revival (2005) -- The torn up curtain. LOOOVED it.
Legally Blonde -- It's just cute.
Wicked -- Amazing.
The Light in the Piazza (tour) -- The Italian landscape. Gorgeous.
South Pacific -- Just... amazing.

I wish they had expanded Shrek's set into the audience. Like, I wish the swamp motif had crawled over into the boxes and the upper part of the proscenium. It just seems like a touring show otherwise.
