The chords are the same and the whole "I think I'll be the one to make that call. You're right, I'd never fall for you at all" is the same melody.

If you're implying that one needs to see those two movies in order to form an informed opinion of La La Land, I don't see it. If anything, familiarity with them makes it easier to bash LLL, since they're much better movies (well, Young Girls is; I'm not a fan of Umbrellas).

eh, i don't really see too much theft from the Demy musicals, besides the ending of Umbrellas being similar. Okay there's color...other movies also use color.

@hork don't clutch those pearls too tightly haha.

I was just saying that quite a few people I know who disliked the movie act as if they are ultimate authorities on either films or musicals or both, but in fact have limited knowledge.

I do think a major part of enjoying La La Land is getting all the references and influences though. For me that's the entire purpose of the movie. It's not everyone's cup of tea and everyone doesn't have to like it but that's what it is.
