I caught the opening night in Chicago and OMG, Euan is a stunning Hedwig.  He brings something truly special to the role, and is by far and away my favorite non-JCM Hedwig. His voice is incredible, and his interactions with the audience were a definite highlight. He and Hannah are wonderful together, and I loved that Hannah's take on Yitzhak was obviously inspired by Lena's performance. Their Midnight Radio was so powerful and raw. I also loved the region specific jokes they worked in, as well as the political comments regarding immigration. What an amazing performance.

What Chicago-specific jokes did they add in? As a native Chicagoan, I'm curious.

"It all went down in the newly annoying Wicker Park." Followed by a joke about how hard it was find the door to the Double Door and then a transgender bathroom joke. It took her an hour to find the door to the bar and then she had to go to the bathroom and wasn't sure which bathroom she could use.

And then during the segment about the limo and running into Tommy again she says "We drove around Wrigleyville catching up, doing drugs, as you do." Just slight changes from the Broadway script but crowd pleasers nonetheless.

Does anyone know of any good ticket deals for the show while it's in Chicago? I was really counting on cheaper tickets through rush, but to my surprise the show is selling very well.

add me to the list of people mesmerized by Euan Morton in this. I had seen Hedwig on Broadway with Darren Criss, and went to my local touring house with no idea what to expect. I enjoyed Euan Morton so much I bought another ticket to see it again in another city several hours away.

Earlier in this thread there was mention of audio recordings popping up on youtube. Forgive me for being "the person that asks this question" but I have searched high and low on youtube and can't find anything. Anybody know if it got removed or if I'm just not bright enough to find it? thanks for any help.

A little late but I got to see the standby Hedwig, Mason Alexander Park, go on in Detroit and he was absolutely fantastic. I would have never guessed it was his first weekend performing the role. Just wanted to throw that out in case Euan is out for a performance anyone is attending.

There is a rush, $25. No official announcement, but I messaged Broadway in Chicago on Facebook and they said it should be on their "special offers page". It's not, but when I went to the BO they gave me tix anyway!

Going to both shows this Sunday. Very excited!!

Thank you so much! That's so weird they don't have it listed. I know many of the dates were greyed out so I just assumed it was nearly sold out.

Glad people are digging it. I have second row of interaction aisle for Jersey, and front row on non-interaction aisle for Philly...

I'm also curious if my seats are interaction! They are in Philly, orchestra row D, seats 3 + 5.

Darn. I saw this just a smidge too late. I just bought $40 balcony seats on Stubhub. I wish I had seen this in time. I messaged them as well, and was told to check the special offers, and when I did, I just assumed the $59 deal was all they were offering. Maybe they would let me switch out the tickets for better ones at the rush price it's worth a try I guess. Sigh :/

Madela--most of his interaction out in the house in Chicago with the glasses, script and "shroud" were at audience left orchestra within the first 4- rows or so.  I don't think he went nearly back to row P.  But Yitzhak ran down the aisle before his finale outfit up that row, also.

First time seeing it but have known about it for years.  I echo everyone's sentiments about how phenomenal both Euan and Hannah were. I wished I'd seen NPH but that ship sailed long ago.  I am curious how Darren Criss did when it was his turn on Broadway, but there are so many lingering jokes about him (including in the show last night), I'm guessing he was phenomenal, also.  I wonder why people don't gush about Andrew Rannells; I"m curious how his run went.  He must have been great.  He's such a whirling dervish of energy on a normal day, whether on a talk show or even his low-key role on "Girls," that I bet he was hysterical.  SUCH a demanding role in any case, both physically and vocally, that it seems impressive that anyone who's done it, has done it.  I looked up more about it after the show last night and learned that Lena Hall switched from playing Yitzhak to Hedwig, and wonder...how that works, haha!  Apparently Ally Sheedy played Hedwig at one point, also?  Wow.

The Chicago and current events/immigration jokes were hilarious and...appropriate, including the "Wicker Park" and "Wrigleyville" mentions by another poster, above.  Except he switched from talking about the Double Door to "not finding the door" at Violet Hour, not Double Door itself.  (Trivia: Double Door is a legendary club for alternative bands and punk-ish, artsy sorts in a gentrified artsy neighborhood, that's been fraught by controversy inflicted upon the club owners by the building owners for the last several years.  It got pretty nasty and recently they were forced out.  We all hope they'll open another location in the area, soon.  Great place to go for Halloween, fyi.)

Anyway, accomplishments all around.  Go see it if you haven't, for a wonderful time.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had the practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." --Alice in Wonderland

Euan, for me, was right up there with Cerveris and JCM.  The person didn't overshadow the character.  I saw every Hedwig on Broadway and aside from JCM, I felt the celebrity leak through every other gentleman who donned the boots.  They never truly melted into Hedwig.  It was always a little disappointing.

Euan's voice is right for the role and his ease with the monologues were fantastic.  His accent was natural and never gaudy.  For this HedHead, going all the way back to the Squeezebox days, it was a taste of what made JCM electric in this role.

If you can see Euan in the tour, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the reply. I am actually row C (which I think is actually the second row?) on the left orch aisle. Sounds like I should guard my fragile glasses lol

I've seen every Hedwig starting with Neil EXCEPT Andrew. I am so bummed I didn't get to see him in the role because I just adore him. I guess I haven't seen Mason either but I think he only went on once?
I thought Darren was much better in San Francisco than he was on Broadway. Seeing Darren so soon after JCMs insane final show probably didn't help my judgement though.
Lena was amazing in the role. You can read everyone's gushing about her around page 8 of this thread.

I was just looking up photos from the Oriental with the Hedwig set up. Looks like there is still a blocked off orchestra pit section? That's a bummer for the front row and this show. It was nice to be so close to Hurricane Hedwig. Ah well, I'm still jazzed for Sunday.

Did anyone see the Chicago show Sunday night?  Wondering if Euan called out or how he did.  I was at the matinee and could tell from his voice and energy level that he wasn't feeling well - he also coughed a few times and tried to cover with improv (my husband who i dragged along for the ride thought it was just part of the show HEDWIG TOUR What a heroic feat to get through that show at less than 100%.  I traveled to Chicago just to see him (been a fan since Taboo) so I'm glad he was in, but I felt for him.  So much respect.   Anyway, just curious.

I was there for the Sunday 7:30 performance.  I wondered if something was up because there was a noticeable difference between his energy level on opening night and his energy level last night.  He powered through, but I noticed that things felt a little bit off.  There were a few times where he held Hannah close after a song and it was obvious he was communicating something about how he might need her to step it up.  Still an amazing performance, and good on him for soldiering on in spite of an obvious illness.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's still not 100%, he missed six shows in a row in Detroit because he got strep. I actually ended up seeing the standby, Mason, more than Euan (3 vs 1, thanks cheap student rush lol). However, he most likely went on Sunday night because Mason was very good at tweeting every time he was on in Detroit. Hopefully someone who went can respond with how he sounded that particular night.

I saw Euan's 2nd show back after missing the six and mostly couldn't tell until it hit midnight radio, he was definitely struggling a bit to finish it out.

Mason is fantastic as well though, so people shouldn't be too worried if Euan does have to miss any shows.

Gee, I hope he's doing better. This is not an easy show to begin with, and since most people come to this show for the actor playing Hedwig, calling out is probably not an easy call to make.

Seeing the show on Saturday, very very excited. I saw Hannah last summer in Evita and wasn't the biggest fan of her acting. But to be fair, that production had way too many issues and I saw the opening weekend so maybe she got better? It's nice to read that she's doing well though! I do love her voice.

I didn't realize he had gotten strep.  I don't know how he barreled through last night because he looked completely wrecked by the end of the matinee.  I really felt for him.  I also noticed some of the longer private interactions with Hannah and figured it was related.  He was the consummate professional for even going on and leaving everything he had out there.

I don't know how much of the audience realized he wasn't 100% but it would be a shame if they base their impressions of him on that performance alone. Not that it wasn't still very good, but he would be phenomenal healthy and with that stunning voice he has. I would love to try to go back next week if he's back in top form but am 90 miles away and don't really have the day to spare right now - but I'd probably be unable to resist making the trek if I know he is, though.  If anyone can report on how this week's performances go I'd so appreciate it!!
