SHOUT! Factory has licensed the original series from 20th Century-Fox and will be releasing Part One of the series' First Season on May 19th, 2009. It will be a 5 disc set and will be presented in it's original full screen black & white format.
PEYTON PLACE is based on Grace Metalious' scandalous best seller. It was adapted to the screen in 1957 by 20th Century-Fox and starred Lana Turner, Russ Tamblyn, Diane Varsi, Hope Lange and Terry Moore.
In 1964 PEYTON PLACE was adapted by Fox for television and starred Dorothy Malone, Ed Nelson, Ryan O'Neal, Mia Farrow and Barbara Parkins. It aired for five seasons and it was so popular at it's height it was aired 3 times a week. The first two seasons were in black and white. Starting with the show's third season it was shot in color.
SHOUT! Factory has committed to releasing all five seasons in their entirety.
Thanks for the info, Marquise. I've been hoping they'd put it out for a looooong time.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
