ahhhh. when are they closing?

I don't see why they would--they've been staying in the 70s for attendance--that isn't too bad. Plus, the show is fun!

Um...not even breaking $500,000 at the Palace on a weekley basis and only filling it to 70% capacity is NOT good business. And besides...I'm SURE Tarzan, Mary Poppins, or Lestat are knocking on its heals it get in to that theatre.

I can't see it lasting into 2006. Tarzan would be perfect for that theater. Ideally though, they should just bring back Aida.

Think about it, when a show posts a closing notice, the powers that be at this site usually report it in their news features. I won't speculate until I read it from them.

You can post a notice and give the show a workweek before it closes. The notice can be taken down half a workweek (4 perfs) before the posted notice would take effect without penalty. Some shows have spent most of their run with a notice of some sort posted and then taken down and replaced by another for the following week. All Shook Up has a potential gross of about a mil a week so 500 grand per is not all that good. It doesn't matter diddly squat how many people are in the audience. It matters what those people paid to get in the theatre. Remember those 2nd balcony tix are $19.50 each and they sell like a house afire. However they sell to an entirely different audience than the ones dropping a Century Note per seat downstairs. Discounts are rampant on the show. On the other hand there is no show with an immediate need of a theatre. Nothing is in rehearsal without a theatre. I bet they want this to play through New Years. Let's see if it does. This would give the powers-that-be time to start booking a tour.

Do any of these new shows need a theatre this fall? Occasionally shows go into rehearsal without a definite theatre booked. If any of these is in that situation then yes, All Shook Up (or something) is gone. If they are not due until spring then it can play a while. All Shook Up can load out fairly quickly. Any new show would depend on how much pre-production work needs to happen.

Perhaps Cheyenne should do the show shirtless - I'd buy a ticket. Otherwise, I am not going.

I really hope ASU doesn't close right now. It's such a fun show - better than most on Broadway right now. People really just need to give it a chance. I came in thinking I wouldn't like it, and I ended up seeing it 12 times in about 35 days.

Mary Poppins is over a year away. Tarzan has the Richard Rodgers. Surely ALL SHOOK UP will last the summer, though I doubt much past the end of the year. The Palace Theatre is simply too coveted.

I was surprised when I heard the rumor. Wasn't expecting it to close this soon. I thought it would run a while. But apparently it's not closing. I don't know, it's not being announced on Playbill or Broadway or here, but I know there are a lot of shows that would die to get in that theatre.

I really hope ASU lasts AT LEAST till 2006. The show is fun and the cast is just amazing. There is no weak link in that show.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. I think they turned some catchy Elvis songs into a bunch of mediocre theatre songs for the chorus. The orchestrations are boring. I can't but image what this would have sounded like if Marc Shaiman (sp?) had done them. That would have been devine. I was so disappointed in the way the songs were broken up across many characters. I don't really like the cast recording, either. I mean let some of the characters have a whole song. Big disappointment. Baddadnpa, Sorry but Cheyenne doesn't look like this anymore

Since we're on the subject. I found the book to be the best part in an otherwise mediocre show. The ensemble all work very hard and put on a mildly amusing show, but I was never truly entertained! Thank God for Leah Hocking and Mark Price!
