I recently saw the show while in previews, and visited the stage door after. My main goal was to get Laura Michelle Kelly to sign my playbill, tell her I loved her performance and admired her, and run to catch a train home. Well Laura was the first person out if my memory serves correct and she signed my playbill I thanked her so many times and completely forgot anything else. I decided to miss my train and wait for everyone else to come out. I did see Matthew, he was last out at around 10:45 and only signed pretty quickly for some before running off to an appearance (totally understandable). The young boys were hilarious! And all of the ensemble was very kind and awesome!

Anyone have any other experiences at their stage door or backstage? (I also saw Diane the director during the show but chickened out saying hi)

I am doing a paper in school on why so many people enjoy going to the stage door, and needed to experince it first hand but also have knowledge of other experiences in my I 'situation'!

Chickened out?  She's just a person like every one else.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I was sitting right in front of Diane Paulus the first time I saw the show. We talked at the end and the next time my boyfriend and I were there she actually recognized and said hi. When I asked if she could sign my Neverland poster, she said yes and made sure her assistant directed us to her at the end. Completely lovely. So... next time, don't chicken out! I also met several cast members backstage and they were all lovely.

"Mr Sondheim, look: I made a hat, where there never was a hat, it's a Latin hat at that!"

I went to the audience talkback in previews.. but I'm not sure what information you are looking for regarding your paper or if I could help you at all.. A lot of the cast couldn't come out because they were changing the opening the next morning and had early rehearsals.. It was mostly the kids telling their stories of how they became involved in the show, and Laura Michelle Kelly and Carolee Carmelo answered some questions.. Kelsey Grammer came out just to say a quick hi, but Matthew wasn't able to which was totally understandable.. Not super exciting but whatever haha

My daughter's went April 8th and said everyone came out although it took awhile for Matthew Morrison to come out. They said it was crazy so there was no pictures taken with any of them. They even helped a couple of people get their programs signed that were behind them. My youngest daughter did get a decent picture of Mr. Morrison as he was going down the line signing.

I left at a little after 11PM and he hadn't come out yet. We heard later that he did not come out.

No, I might not have said that clearly. I got nervous and didn't want to walk over and say hello to her.

Yes! I was towards the back of the orchestra level, and ran out after curtain call. I didn't want to miss curtain call because it was my first time seeing the show and the whole theatre gave them a standing ovation, and they can back and bowed twice!

I was was the second row right near the door, which was a great spot. They all came out the door and turned to their left to my side first.

Matthew Morrison didn't come out last night but apologized on Twitter. He said it was a long day and needed some rest (both physically and vocally) and seemed sincere about it. He didn't have to apologize but was very classy that he did.

Morrison's a classy guy. He didn't need to apologize, but he did. I'm sure he had the craziest week between his opening night and doing all the attendant press. He usually signs autographs, and if you check his Twitter, he even posted an Instagram of being serenaded by fans at the stage door. Morrison also reported that he was happy that his 'Glee' 'ex-students' Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz and Harry Shum Jr. just caught the show, and offered best wishes to his former leading lady Kelli O'Hara on 'King and I.'

I went backstage a few weeks ago, and it was supers fun. All the cool set pieces (including some which had already been cut from the show) were back there, etc. Lots of cast members were hanging out back there, like Carolee Carmello, Laura Michelle Kelly (who went back inside after signing), Teal Wicks, etc.. We went up to the dressing rooms, which was really cool. Kelsey had already left when we passed his room, but Matthew was hanging out in his dressing room, talking to Brad Ellis, the piano player from Glee. After he was done talking to him, he was happy to speak with my group, taking pics and chatting. It was a very fun experience!

For those that have been, how crowded is the stage door? I'm seeing the show Thursday night and was hoping to get in the front of the barricade.

I've been there 9 times and only caught her once, so it's really hit or miss with her.

She stopped stage dooring for about a month and a half a while back but for the past month but she has returned to stage dooring since early July and has been coming out every day according to Instagram. I wonder why she stopped for that month or so, but don't worry she's doing it now!

I did the stage door for the first time ever, when FN  was in Cambridge. Such a wonderful experience that made me feel more invested in the show an the actors. At ART in Cambridge it is very organized and controlled, so it may be different in NY. They have you line up in the lobby and the actors progress down the "reception line" one by one.

We found the cast so receptive. They chatted with us and posed for photos while signing. We thanked them for coming to Boston, and they all said said no, thank YOU for coming!

Sadly Jerremy Jordan, Micheal McGraff and Jeana DeWall are not in the NY production as they were so personable and FANTASTIC!

We had short chats with many of the actors them regarding their plans after the show closed at ART.

Laura was wonderful! So sweet! She took photos with both of us, as did Carolee Carmelo  & Melanie Moore.

As far as your research, having the chance to interact, allows  for a different relationship to how you view an actor. I found it encouraged me to learn more about them and follow them to other shows as well as solo events they may do.

Anyone know how the stage door has been for the tour?
