I'm not asking for anyone to compare these two Broadway stars as far as who they prefer?, who has more talent? The fact is these two women could not be more different from one another, yet their careers often mirror image and over lap each other. They are both considered the grand dames of the post Golden Age Broadway stage. Very often they have even played the same role or wanted to play the same role. What I've always wondered is do these two women actually get along or is their some fricition between them? I have never seen them interact together except at Sondheim's 80th. My opinion is that they really don't wish to be friends. I've always wanted them to co-star on Broadway together. What are some perceptions that others have on this subject?

I actually heard that Patti went to see Bernadette in Annie Get Your Gun over 95 times, so make of that what you will.

Patti holds Bernadette's mane of hair when she barfs at the bathroom in Joe Allen after they spend the night doing Irish Car Bombs.

Thanks for the snarky responses. First of all, Patti does not look the type to see any show 95 times. And Betty Boy, your really not that funny at all.

It's also not funny to raise this belabored topic again. The women appear to have a professional relationship. Nothing more to say.

It certainly wouldn't be in the interest of either woman to publicly deride the other. I doubt that they are girlfriends, but they seem to be cordial, at least by public standards. I have heard that Patti was very upset not to have gotten the ANNIE GET YOUR GUN revival, but she never made any negative statements about Bernadette in public.

I legitmately was curious about the topic since I do hapen to enjoy the both of them. Please pull up a thread where this exact topic has been discussed before. I'm sure people have ranted about who they prefer or which has the most talent. I'm not asking about that at all.

It's like the whole Jerry Herman/Stephen Sondheim argument. These people are professional adults. They have a professional relationship. BP and PL are enormously talented, each in their own (very unique) way.

I think my issue with this topic is that it goes back to the idea that two women who may be "rivals" professionally cannot get along personally (at best) or are catty and mean to each other (at worst). They don't need to be best friends, but there also doesn't need to be animosity between them. Like other posters have said, they're both adults and can at least be civil to each other.

There was an incident a few years ago at the Tony Awards. Bernadette was in the ladies room applying extra rouge to her cheeks. Obviously the Star Monitor was off somewhere taking a nip of gin because into the ladies room swept Patti LuPone. (It is in both of these women's contracts that there is to be nobody in the ladies room when they sweep in).

Bernadette looked at Patti's reflection in the mirror and said: Anything you can do, I can do better.

Patti responded: I kept my promise, you keep your distance.

Bernadette said: Time heals everything but loving you.

Patti advancing to the sink said: The tigers come at night.

Suddenly the Star Monitor burst into the bathroom. She said: "For the love of Sondheim, I must ask both of you to evacuate this room immediately."

The two women were pushed aside as Angela Lansbury made a grand entrance into the powder room. "Upon Merman's death, I became the reigning Rose, and I will thank you talentless hacks to close the skivvy door on your way out."

It has been rumored that both Ms. LuPone and Ms. Peters murmured "Chav" under their breath as they exited the ladies room.

Ok, this thread has become one big joke I didn't intend for it to be that way, but afterall this BWW. Gothampc, your little post was quite creative I must admit. The fact is though in my humble opinion Anglea has the least talent of all and I will never understand how she got all the plum roles and recieved so much acclaim for them. But, that's just my perception.

lupone76, it is fine for you to have an opinion on talent. However you should take note that

Angela Lansbury has won 5 Tony Awards (Patti and Bernadette have won two each, Patti has a Tony for a role that Angela won a Tony for first).

At 87 years old, Angela Lansbury has taken on the lead role in Driving Miss Daisy.

Least talented? I hardly think so.

The most I think anyone has publicly discussed it is Patti in that Provincetown concert video with Seth Rudetsky (available on SethTV.) She makes a few pointed comments about not being cast as the Witch in "Into the Woods" and being the *only* diva (when compared to BP and Betty B.) There were other small jabs too, but those come to mind most readily.

I would not be entirely shocked if Gothampc's story is true. Seems legit.

Let's just say this, I have never heard Bernadette say anything about Patti at all. But I have heard Patti Discuss how she was going to replace Bernadette in Sunday in the Park With George but negotiations, or her voice (all belt) didn't suit the score. Then how she wanted the Cinderella in Into the Woods but they wanted her for the Witch, she agreed but wanted star billing and a specific salary that couldn't be met. Then supposedly Bernadette got it all. I also heard rumblings that she wanted Annie get your gun.

Skivvy door? I believe it's called privy. Otherwise, amusing.

^^And on top of all that, Patti wanted to replace Zeta-Jones in A Little Night Music.

Actually I think she wanted to open the revival.

Oh, really? I must've misinterpreted what she was saying when she was talking about not getting the part.

The question is: Which of these talented actresses will win Tony #3 first? And who else has 2 Tonys? Besides Murphy, Chita, Bacall, Ebersole, Liza, and Foster?
