Can't wait. Really enjoyed the show.

It's already on Spotify, so you can hear it if you're waiting on the actual CD.

It's pretty terrible. Even the one thing worth saving couldn't be preserved with dignity. Plus, as much as it's a reminder of how much fun I had in spite of everything, it's mostly a glaring reminder of how disappointing it was to see the show be hacked to ugly pieces.

Been listening to it on Spotify for almost two weeks now. It sounds fantastic. Re-emphasizes the fact that the book sunk this show and not the score or the brilliant cast.

I cant seem to find it on Spotify for the life of me. What do I need to plug into the search?

Thanks!

"Leap of Faith Broadway" brought it up for me.

"Re-emphasizes the fact that the book sunk this show and not the score or the brilliant cast."

So it was just the book? How about a tired story and plotting? How about cliched lyrics and gospel music we've heard a million times on Broadway and from Menken? How about lyrics that are embarrassed the actors uttering them?

The set was HIDEOUS, the audience participation thing was awful.

The cast was mostly fine, but Jessica Phillips was completely miscast and disappeared on stage.

To be fair, Menken didn't write the lyrics.

And yeah, no, too much mis-directed re-working of all the wrong things sunk this show. It was once lovely. I'm sorry more people didn't get to see it like that.

"How about a tired story and plotting?"
To which I blame the librettist. That's not the fault of Menken or Slater.

"How about cliched lyrics and gospel music we've heard a million times on Broadway and from Menken?"
I'll give you the lyrics weren't Sondheim, but they were a whole lot less clunky and cliched than a slew of lyrics from people like Tim Rice, Stephen Schwartz, etc. And Menken's score here is infinitely better than Sister Act and the new stuff he wrote for Little Mermaid.

"The set was HIDEOUS, the audience participation thing was awful."
The set matched the energy of the performances on stage and the audience participation appeared successful as everyone was participating.

"The cast was mostly fine, but Jessica Phillips was completely miscast and disappeared on stage."
She wasn't miscast. Her role was horribly written. Again-- librettist.

It's a musical; you can't not blame poor plotting at least in part on the lyricist, unless you have (intentionally) non-plot-driving songs, which Leap of Faith sure as hell didn't. The songs are meant to drive the plot. If the plot sits stagnant, doesn't work, whatever, that's on the librettist and the lyricist, and not even on them alone.

Plus, Glenn Slater has never, in my mind, proven himself to be too terribly talented. The new material for The Little Mermaid was nowhere near the caliber of vintage Menken, especially on the level of Menken/Ashman, but those lyrics were, by any decent standards, flat-out aw.ful.

Jessica wasn't so much miscast, IMO, as that part (ironic considering that it was made to be a composite of several characters) was, like most of the show, reduced to a skeleton of its former self. I don't blame her or the casting, because I think she was lovely and gave Raul a good run for his money on stage.

I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I looked forward to this show in full production for 5 and a half years, I saw it in development and loved it, and really wanted to love the final product. It was a colossal disappointment because of misfire after misfire being made along the way. In the end it broke my heart.

I'm really loving this CD. I find much more to like in it than any musical score in the past ten years - at least. Titkle number is wonderful Sorry I missed the show.

"I'll give you the lyrics weren't Sondheim, but they were a whole lot less clunky and cliched than a slew of lyrics from people like Tim Rice, Stephen Schwartz, etc. "

"Even Helen Keller can see right through you"???? Seriously? The songs were a huge problem with that show. A lot of word choices were really out-of-character and the audience noticed. That kid uses the word "ajar" yea cause that happens.

"And Menken's score here is infinitely better than Sister Act and the new stuff he wrote for Little Mermaid."

I'm sorry "Like Magic" is unforgivable. Did this show really need a Disney song?

Like Magic pissed me off. It was swapped in for a song that was one of my favorites in the score. And it wasn't good!

And please. You can be "not Sondheim" and still be effing decent. The whole thing wasn't a travesty but Glenn Slater's body of work is a far cry even from "not Sondheim."

Kids know "ajar"! And he's like 12.

Enjoyed the show & Esparza (like Scandalous more). Liked the score but enjoyed Bonnie & Clydes more. Detested the set . Choreography so so.

Gave it a 7 1/2 out of a 10

How about, to each his own?

I enjoyed the show enough to see it twice. Got an invite the 1st time and paid the second time.

I enjoy a couple of the songs, but it's certainly not Menken's best.

But I think Phillips was wonderful and far from miscast.

I love the finale song, but would rather listen to the version they released during LA. Seems choppy to me or something.

What are the diva songs that Phillips sings? kthx.

She has Fox in the Henhouse, a lyrically ridiculous duet with Raul, Long Past Dreaming, a pretty song but basically a lesser Part of Your World, and People Like Us, a duet with Kendra.

I got this today and love it! The show was flawed, but there are some great performances, and vocally this cast recording is really amazing. The orchestra also sounds very reach and full.

Highlights are Lost, Jonas Soliloquy, and of course Leap of Faith.

Unfortunately any book bits that they did save just serve to remind me how terrible the dialogue was.

I'm not a huge fan of Glenn Slater's lyrics in anything, but I will say that I think Leap of Faith is his best effort so far out of Little Mermaid, Tangled, Sister Act and Love Never Dies. I know that's not saying much.

^Also, I love "Like Magic," but I never heard the original song that it replaced. I definitely know how that feels. I had major issues with some songs in the Broadway Bonnie & Clyde that replaced far better ones in the original production.

Just finished listening to this on Spotify. It's not as bad as I had been led to believe. It's not great, but it's not terrible, either. A lot of the songs just kind of sound the same. Like Magic, If You're Faith is Strong Enough, and the second reprise of Rise Up are lovely. Step Into the Light sounds like it could be a great scene onstage.

Step into the Light was fun onstage.
