2010 Olivier Nominations Feb 8, 03:00:34 PM I'm a little surprised Jodie Prenger didn't get a nod.
Blood Brothers Feb 6, 10:59:04 AM I saw it on Broadway first and fell in love with the show. A few years later, I took my parents to see it when I was living in London. It's been 11 years since I saw it last and would love to see it again. I think it is a gorgeous show. Sure it's predictable and sentimental and wears its emotions on its sleeve. Just like most musicals. But if you are looking for light entertainment, this is definitely not the show for you.
People who you just couldn't or better still wouldn't c
Green Day's 'American Idiot' gets box office surge, according to Riedel Feb 5, 03:46:52 PM That hair and makeup is SO 1980! It was like this "futuristic" coke-inspired quasi-edgy Studio 54 couture coif. I remember that style so vividly. Very Xanadu. Slick back that hair and tie up the rest into an asymmetrical cock-eyed sculpture stuck on your head. Then put on more makeup than a desperate hooker needing that last $50 before sunrise Sunday morning. There is no excuse for that dress, however. I think she was afraid she would be swallowed up on that massive stage. <
AMERICAN PSYCHO - Duncan Sheik's new musical Feb 2, 05:07:31 PM Not interested in seeing a musicalization of this story. It's a stunning piece of literature, but I don't understand the need to stage it, much less musicalize it. I don't know, it could end up being fantastic, but there is nothing about the project that appeals to me in any way.
Cleverest Lyrics? Feb 1, 05:57:41 PM I love On the Steps of the Palace! Especially the lines:
But then, what if he knew Who you were when you know That you're not what he thinks That he wants?
And then what if you are...
That entire song is one of Sondheim's most clever works.
Musical with Longest Title Feb 1, 02:36:06 PM Actually, there was a major musical production in Spain that premiered in Madrid in 2008 called "A". My partner saw the show. He said it was pretty awful.
Next Mel Brooks musical Feb 1, 11:32:23 AM Yeah, I think Young Frankenstein an Producers have similar sounding scores as well. Are they identical? Of course not. Young Frankenstein has a little edge for infusing some Eastern European flavor in a couple of songs, but I found both scores incredibly generic, bland and unmemorable. I enjoy the Mel Brooks films, but not the musicals. Producers was ok, I guess. There was a lot more originality in the book instead of being such a literal adaptation. Young Frankenstein bored me to pieces.
La Cage chance Feb 1, 11:14:50 AM I didn't see Hodge, but the London production is the best production of the show I've seen yet. I was never a big fan of La Cage until this production.

Theater etiquette: Discussing a show at intermission Jan 30, 09:54:28 AM When attending the premiere of a new Edward Albee play, I was in the lobby during intermission with my parents and my mother was making comments about the play and comparing it to another Albee premiere we saw the same season at a different theatre and some of her comments were quite critical, but valid. I noticed Albee standing behind my mother, watcher her from a couple of feet away. I quickly whispered to my mother that Edward Albee was standing right behind her. She stopped for a second a
Sara Gettelfinger to replace Rachel York? Jan 29, 03:44:46 PM I'm going only because it is part of my season tickets. I wonder what they're going to do with all the advertising in Chicago with Rachel York's name plastered everywhere?
