So what happens when "You Know who" dies? I can't wait.

I think all the criticisms about her missing performances is fair. I think it's totally not out of the league to complain about a performer not showing up on stage when you've emptied your wallet and your bank account to see the show. A fair amount of actors have been criticized for missing performances. Some of them are for unfortunate reasons, while others are just unprofessional/undedicated, and I'm afraid I'm starting to think Karen Olivo falls in the latter situation.

I just see it as her style of singing. And I don't care what "zOMFG She has a terrible technique! She's going to ruin her voice in the future" people have to say or you, Tazbar.

Because it all depends on the culture, I just do what other people do. In things like Kabuki, it is a tradition to clap (or even shout out the actor's father in greater compliment) when a performer does a picturesque pose (mie) or changes costumes on stage. On national tours that I see, most people are indeed subscribers who sees shows often, and only gives standing ovations when appropriate. On Broadway, it's a totally different crowd. And I don't blame just the tourists. I don't thin

- re: Billy Elliot CD - which Billy??? Jul 25, 04:58:32 AM
They're both the Original London Cast. They're just packaged differently (like what they did for Mary Poppins, if my memory serves me correctly.) for US and UK release. ETA: I just remembered that they did indeed release two different versions. One version was a two-disc recording that featured Elton John singing few songs on the second track (and IMHO, not a necessity to have). Another version only featured the actual show, and is a one-disc recording. I'm not sure what exactly is

As a friend of Trevor & his family, I can 100% tell you... Trevor is indeed joining Billy Elliot... as MICHAEL, NOT BILLY like many are saying. Well aren't you special. Only one person made that statement.

- re: Shrek Recouped Jul 22, 07:52:30 AM
A show like Shrek would cost AT LEAST $600,000/week to run. (Probably more, I'm very sure) Luckily for them, they're doing well in these summer weeks, but I'm sure it'll suffer once September rolls in.
- re: Huskcharmer sees A Chorus Line on Tour Jul 20, 03:17:32 AM
I saw Bryan Knowlton on Broadway, and I remember him rather underplaying his part (as in "God, my life sucks, doesn't it? *chuckles*") and I was totally unimpressed by it. Later on, I saw Joey Dudding and he failed to move me, either. It felt as if I was watching a college production. Now, when I saw the tour last year, Kevin Santos was on for Paul, and he COMPLETELY played it over the top and his emotions felt way too forced. But despite this, I was teary-eyed by the time he finished h

Just for those who wants to hear the second version of the finale
- re: Miss Saigon original finale Jul 19, 06:15:24 PM
The Original Japanese recording is actually recorded from a live performance, so I believe it includes the entire show. (you can hear the applause, footsteps in the opening, etc)

When I first visited this board, I was like, "Who is Carol Channing?" I think this board taught me tremendously about everything related to Broadway. And how to make snide remarks.
