DREAMGIRLS tour cuts/additions? Jan 25, 08:21:56 AM I miss STEP ON OVER for the Act II opening but the replacement melody isn't bad at all.
I do like the quietness of the original reunion scene between Deena and Effie, but I have to admit, watching it at The Apollo, it was quite the crowd pleaser to see the two actresses have a vocal smackdown for the re-worked duet of LISTEN. Beyonce couldn't hold a candle to the singing of Syesha Mercado and Moya Angela. (As an aside, I hate that I've yet to hear Beyonce sing LISTEN live in its origi
Lea Salonga Interview on Q-TV in Canada Jan 25, 08:14:58 AM I just ran across this, which I'd not seen until last night. It's from about a month ago from some Canadian broadcast outlet.
The interview has, among other things, a lot of great insight as to how MISS SAIGON affected Salonga's life, what it meant to be the first Asian to play Eponine in the Broadway staging of LES MIZ and the significance to her of being an ambassador of sorts for the Philippines.
re: OLTL fans Jan 23, 10:41:37 PM Tuc Watkins is being wasted on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. He's such a hoot and a half as DVTM on OLTL.
How was final FINIANS performance? Jan 18, 11:08:36 PM Not to mention, Andrea Martin was also in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and she's known outside of the theatre circle from her SCTV days and various TV and film appearances.
And as others have mentioned, millions know Megan Mullaly, who had the dishonor of having to sing about a large penis in that show, from WILL & GRACE.
What have you walked out of and why? Jan 18, 10:41:27 PM I almost marched out of Wildhorn's JEKYLL & HYDE. I would have walked out but it would have really hurt my friend's feelings had I done so.
I did walk out of a production of NYC Opera's LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. I was a student then so I bought cheap seats. Couldn't stand the singing. And I was hungry. So win-win.
How was final FINIANS performance? Jan 18, 10:37:42 PM Stunt or "big name" casting doesn't necessarily always work on Broadway, as evidenced by the abysmal revival of BYE BYE, BIRDIE. Perhaps with plays, yes, but with musicals? I'd say it's a bigger risk to put in non-Broadway folk on musicals in NYC. For instance, SWEET CHARITY didn't fare well with Christina Applegate a few seasons ago, and even big names couldn't salvage the disaster that was YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. I've yet to see A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC but that was going to be a box office hit as
How was final FINIANS performance? Jan 18, 07:09:55 AM Pretty much pitch perfect. Great energy and vibe from both the cast and the audience, and I was moved most after Terri White's number - she almost broke character as the tears welled up in her eyes. The audience was on its feet even before the start of curtain calls.
I'm so glad I discovered this show and its score at City Center, and that I got to see this Broadway mounting take its (way too premature, IMHO) final bow.
They just don't make musicals like FR anymore... :o(
Ragtime's Final Performance Jan 11, 04:39:16 AM I sat on the second row, and had an amazing time. I love going to closing performances, and the energy and vibe were great in the audience and from the cast.
I'm very sad to see the revival close. To me, the material holds up excellently and reinforces what I believed back in '98: RAGTIME was robbed at the Tonys by the overhyped LION KING.
All in all, I'm glad the show went out with a bang. Well done.
Ragtime Final Performance Anyone Else Going? Jan 9, 06:58:19 PM Thanks for the responses re: Christiane! I'm a massive fan, and I bought my ticket for tomorrow thinking she'll close the show. I'm bummed out, but I'm looking forward to seeing the "new" Mother. I loved this show back in the late 90s, and I'm not happy it's closing.
Donna Murphy in 'Wonderful Town' Jan 6, 03:03:26 PM Well, I tried to see Donna Murphy in WONDERFUL TOWN three times, and all times, she was OUT of the show. Her understudy was wonderful though.
I'm rather partial to the Audra McDonald/Kim Criswell recording myself.
re: OLTL fans Jan 4, 12:29:13 AM *POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT* - - - - - - - - - - Stacy will likely die during February Sweeps while giving birth to her and Oliver's baby with Oliver not knowing he's the father.
BTW, any thoughts on the Dec. 30th episode where OLTL again broke ground by having the first gay male love scene on daytime TV? It's the most explicit same-sex love scene from a non-cable, non-PBS aired in US television.
re: OLTL fans Jan 1, 03:46:29 PM OK... I tried to post earlier but it didn't work.

Glad to see OLTL living up to its promise of treating Kyle and Oliver just like it would any of the other straight couples on its canvas.
re: OLTL fans Jan 1, 03:39:29 PM Anyone catch the Kyle/Oliver love scenes from Dec. 30th?
Lea's notes rocked in this clip and when I saw her on the 11th, I think more so than at Carnegie Hall.
Awesome stuff!
re: Any word on a RAGTIME revival recording? Dec 13, 03:54:39 AM Fanb, FR has already been recorded, so that's a done deal. I believe the cast recorded the revival CD on December 7th.
Interesting about RAGTIME. Someone else told me that the show's done as of January 3rd, but I didn't believe him. Then I saw this January 17th date.
Guess we shall see. I just want one more crack at getting to see the show...
re: Photo Coverage: Lea Salonga's YOUR SONGS Concert Dec 13, 03:50:37 AM Glad to be home for the holidays to catch this one! Very entertaining evening indeed. I think YOUR SONGS is a close second to Lea's Carnegie Hall solo concert back in November 2005.
I never thought I'd live to see the day Ai Ai delas Alas's name would get mentioned on broadwayworld.com! Thanks for the write up.
By the way, did the set list change from the first night to the second night? Or did Lea do the same material both nights?
