College and professional football legends Ken Stabler and Bob Baumhower will team up to sponsor an ASF members and media indoor tailgate party prior to the opening of the first public performance of BEAR COUNTRY at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival on January 13, 2011 from 5:30 to 7 PM.

BEAR COUNTRY is a hit play about the life and times of legendary University of Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Stabler played for Bryant in the 1960s and Baumhower played for him in the 1970s.

The pre-show tailgate party is available to ASF Members and invited media only. Anyone can become a member and be eligible to attend this party by becoming an ASF member for only $25 at the ASF box office. Stabler and Baumhower will be available during the evening for autograph signing and audience interaction.

Tickets for Bear Country range from $30 and $45 and are available through the ASF box office, on line at www.asf.net or by phone at 800.841.4273. ASF is located at 1 Festival Drive in the heart of Montgomery's beautiful Blount Cultural Park.

Ken Stabler played for Coach Bryant from 1964-67. In 1966, he led to Crimson Tide to a perfect season and a rout of Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl. Stabler went on to pro football fame with the Oakland Raiders, Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints. He was a four time Pro Bowl selection, two-time All Pro, National Football League Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl winning quarterback. Bob Baumhower was a defensive lineman for Coach Bryant in the mid 70s. He was twice named a second team All American. Baumhower was drafted by the Miami Dolphins 1977 where he became part of the famed "Killer Bees;" one of the most feared defensive units in football history. Before retiring in 1986, Baumhower was a five time Pro Bowl selection.

At the ASF event, Stabler will be featuring a new line of wines that will be available for tasting. Baumhower, the owner of eight restaurants in Alabama, will be supplying food to compliment the wines.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is among the largest Shakespeare theatres in the world. Designated as The State Theatre of Alabama, ASF has been located in Montgomery since 1985 when it moved from Anniston as a result of Mr. and Mrs. Wynton M. Blount's gift of a performing arts complex set in the 250-acre Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park. This program/project has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
