I know that December can be an overwhelming and hectic time of year. But I also know that there are those days that you just need a break from all of the running around and partying. And I know the perfect thing for you to do- see a live production!

One of your new traditions should be Ravenswood Productions presentation of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: LIVE! presented at Birmingham Festival Theatre. It is a wonderful production featuring some of the best actors in Birmingham. Started in Chicago and now one of that city's most beloved traditions, Birmingham is lucky to have this professional, family friendly classic brought to life each holiday season by this company. I attended the show last year on Christmas Eve (matinee at 2:30 that day) and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

South City Theatre in Pelham is presenting THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER! A light hearted Christmas play featuring many kids and laughs, this offering runs December 4-5 and 10-12 at 7:30 and December 6 at 2pm. Call 205-621-2128 or go to www.southcitytheatre.com.

Theatre Downtown is presenting an original work by Daniel Martin as an end of the year fundraiser. Part scripted, part improv, THE MISS GOOSEPATCH CHRISTMAS PAGEANT ends differently every night depending on what the audience wants. Sure to be a fun night with a Theatre Downtown twist, this show will be presented December 3-5 and 9-12 at 8pm and December 6 at 2. The Hoover Library is presenting SCROOGE! THE MUSICAL December 3-5 at 7:30. Directed by Jack Mann and full of great local talent, this classic will be an excellent way to get in the holiday spirit. Call 205-444-7888 or go to www.thelibrarytheatre.com.

Red Mountain Theatre Company presents a HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR in their Cabaret Theatre December 3-20, Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2. Spotlighting the children from their theatre camps and classes as well as some of their adult regulars, this promises to be a delight.
