Alabama Shakespeare Rocks Out With BEEHIVE, Features Biggest Hits Of '60s 7/10

It's our party...and we'll rock if we want to. This summer, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival presents Beehive, a honey of a show featuring the biggest hits of the 1960s, beginning July 10.

The musical features six incredibly talented female singers performing more than 35 fun, high-energy tunes from the era of Beehive hairdos, including It's My Party (Leslie Gore), My Boyfriend's Back (The Angels), One Fine Day (The Chiffons), Come See About Me (The Supremes), Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? (The Shirelles), Downtown (Petula Clark), Respect (Aretha Franklin), You Don't Have to Say You Love Me (Dusty Springfield) and Proud Mary (Tina Turner).

Beehive: The 60s Musical Sensation was created by Larry Gallagher and was first performed in 1985 Off-Broadway, where it ran for 18 months. Its feel-good vibe made it a hit with audiences and critics, and it has since been produced all across the country.

ASF's production stars a seven-piece live band and a group of singers who've been seen in the Broadway and national touring productions of such shows as Hairspray, Rent, Caroline or Change, The Lion King and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Beehive runs from July 10 to August 2. Tickets to all preview performances (July 10-19) are just $25. After that, weeknight tickets are $38 and weekend tickets are $45. Group discounts are available. To order, call the box office at 334-271-5353 or visit www.asf.net.

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is among the largest Shakespeare theatres in the world. Designated as The State Theatre of Alabama, ASF has been located in Montgomery since 1985 when it moved from Anniston as a result of Mr. and Mrs. Wynton M. Blount's gift of a performing arts complex set in the 250-acre Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park.

Audience: Recommended for ages 6+. All patrons must have a ticket, regardless of age. Children under the age of six are not admitted to the theatre.
