Way Off Broadway's Actors' Studio was created in the fall of 2003 as an extension of the theaters wildly popular Children's Theatre Summer Camp program. While the camps would continue to having acting and musical sessions during the summer, the Actors' Studio would be able to offer classes during the spring and fall. With the interest in theater education growing in Frederick and the surrounding area, WOB set out to offer the best possible classes to children interested in the performing arts.

Beginning with the 2010 Fall session of the Actors' Studio, the program is going to be reshaped to fit more in the model of the summer camp program. Now, while each session will continue to focus on teaching all of the aspects of theater through vocal music, acting exercises, and basic choreography, as well as scene studies and performance techniques, it will do so as the class rehearses for a full scale Broadway-style production that will be perform at the end of the session.
The first production for the newly revamped Actors' Studio will be Grease: The School Edition. Based on the classic rock and roll musical, Grease, the school version is shorter and more suitable in content for teens and subteens, while still retaining the fun-loving spirit and immortal songs that made Grease a favorite among rock and roll fans of all ages.

"We have been discussing making some changes in the Actors' Studio program for a little while now," says Bill Kiska, Way Off Broadway's Executive Producer, and one of the instructors. "We wanted to make it more like our summer camps where the students get to put on a full production at the end and we thought a show like Grease would be a great way to kick of the new Actors' Studio."

The class will begin on Tuesday, September 14th and meet once a week for eight weeks, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. At the conclusion of the eight week session, the students will perform on Wednesday evening, November 3rd and Saturday afternoon, November 6th. Registration is done on a first-come first serve basis and costs $290 per student. The fall session of the Actors' Studio is for student 10 - 15 years old and will be taught by Kiska and Jordan Stocksdale, Way Off Broadway's Creative Director. Registration may be done in person at the theater or by calling (301) 662-6600.
