Everyman Theatre seeks Box Office Assistants for 2009-2010 Season

Everyman Theatre of Baltimore is seeking Part Time Box Office employees. Especially in need of at least one employee for weekday work (M-F, 10 AM to 5 PM), and at least one evening/weekend employee. Responsibilities include answering phones, assisting with subscription and single ticket sales and working will-call for performances. Candidates should possess strong customer service skills, great attention to detail and share a courteous attitude toward staff and patrons. Knowledge of theatre and WinTix software is a plus, but not mandatory.

Strand Stage Manager Needed!
Strand Theater Company is seeking a Production Stage Manager with professional or university level experience for its first show of its second season: The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute. Auditions will be held on Sunday, June 28th at The Strand from 6 pm - 9 pm. Rehearsals will be held on weeknights, beginning the week of July 6th, with weekend rehearsals if necessary. The show runs September 11 - October 4.

Rehearsal responsibilities will include: maintaining a prompt script and production book (to include all blocking notations, light and sound cues, prop list, production calendar, contact list, rehearsal reports and performance logs), call cues to begin action (curtain, light, sounds, etc.), record script/blocking changes, prompt actors, and eventually record running times. Once the show opens, the stage manager is responsible for maintaining the show as rehearsed, calling the show and communicating any problems that arise to the appropriate person. The ideal person will display strong organization, interpersonal and "think on your feet" skills.

Vagabond Players june 28 Membership Meeting

Getting Your MFA: The Pros and Cons of Going to Graduate School

Here are some questions to ponder when considering whether to go back to school for your MFA.

Every winter a New Group of actors, both young graduates and those who have been out for a while trying to make a go of it, grapple with the question, "Should I or should I not go to graduate school to get my MFA."Often, they'll consult with their more successful peers, former teachers, family and friends in order to gather up opinions. They're looking for a direct yes or no answer that they can then add to their collection, hoping that eventually the scale will tip one way or the other. If they're lucky, they'll have an older actor ask them, "Well, tell me why you want to go in the first place?" Their response will probably be a mixture of confusion, frustration, desperation and hope, all rolled into one.

Learn the art of acting

This class is designed for non-professionals interested in acquiring basic acting skills. Classes will assist students in developing techniques they can use for any stage performance. Special attention will be given to preparing a contemporary monologue, and developing craft, with a concentration on character motivation, sense memory and text analysis. Instruction based in Stanislavski and Miesner

In this class the actor works to learn and apply fundamental acting principles through a progression of exercises that develop his/her ability to work organically, and to create truthful and expressive behavior in acting. The Class covers such basics as physical and vocal awareness, improvisation, non-verbal expression, sensory awareness, and the language / vocabulary of the theatre.

On Saturday, June 27 @ 2:00 pm "East Side/West Side Life Stories" , the oral history theatre program, will return again and featured in the fourth anniversary celebration of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. This popular oral history program that brings senior adults from both sides of town together is a touching and memorable program that is excellent as an intergenerational program from grandparents to grandchildren. Post-show discussion included. The program is free with reduced admission fee of $ 4 - children under 6, free. Also, on exhibit is "East Side Stories", photographs and oral histories, of Baltimore's Middle East and others areas of East Side with photograhps from Elizabeth Barbush of Art on Purpose and others.

Graveyard Bride

Graveyard Bride is the fourth play to be featured in the Strand's inaugural festival. "The festival has exceeded our wildest expectations," exclaims Artistic Director Jayme Kilburn "we have introduced new patrons to our space and given them an opportunity to view an eclectic mix of theater for only $5. It is a win win!"

Strand Theater Company Member Alex Hewett presents a newly formed performance piece based on photos taken of her in a graveyard while celebrating her recent divorce. Alex takes you on a journey of self discovery that takes her from a new-age gift shop where she consults with a witch, to a dark, freezing graveyard where she connects with an unlikely couple. It's a story of lost loves and loves never had. But most of all it is a story of new beginnings - of starting over without looking back.

Fell's Point Corner Theatre continues the run of its Baltimore Playwright's Festival Production, Bloodlines by Daniel Baum, until July 5th. Set near Baltimore, Bloodlines follows the plight of a young college student, Sarah Friedman, home for spring break to celebrate Passover. Sarah's definition of herself is called into question as family secrets and long-held grudges are revealed. Her father's absence, the addition of her boyfriend over the holiday and her grandmother's illness intensify the unraveling of Sarah's previous sense of self identity, security and family harmony.

Featured in the cast are: Lucia Diaz-French, Janise Whelan, Chris Krysztofiak, Mike L. Barrett and Dianne Hood. Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday - 8pm and Sundays at 7pm. The Light in the Piazza at Theatre Hopkins Thru July 5th at the Swirnow Theatre.

Theatre Hopkins is currently offering the area premiere of the Tony award winning musical, "The Light in the Piazza,"weekends through Sunday June 5, at the Swirnow Theater in the Mattin Center on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus.
With a Tony-winning score and lyrics by Adam Guettel and book by Craig Lucas, the production is directed by Todd Pearthree.

Based on a novella by ElizaBeth Spencer, the story is set in luscious Italy in the summer of 1953 where two American tourists, mother and daughter, dream of romance, but their elegant luggage also contains family secrets.

With musical direction by R. Christopher Rose, the company is led by Helen Hayes Best Actress nominee, Nancy Asendorf as Margaret Johnson, Amy Pierson as her daughter, Clara, and Robert Tucker as Fabrizio. The cast also features Kerry Brady, Tom Burns, Joey Hellman, Tamarin Lawler, Molly Massa, Michael Salconi, Josh Seims and Alyson Shirk.

Curtain time for Friday and Saturday performances is 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees.
