Following its limited engagement of Into the Woods and its co-production of The Rocky Horror Show in 2011, Stocking Productions previously announced that it would bring RENT to Frederick for the first time for a special Memorial Day weekend presentation at The Way Off Broadway Theatre.

About the show: Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of friends struggling to make it in the big city. They include Mark, a filmmaker and the narrator of the story; his former girlfriend, Maureen, a performance artist; Maureen's lover, Joanne, a public interest lawyer; Mark's roommate Roger, a musician; Mimi, an exotic dancer, with whom Roger falls in love; Tom Collins, a computer genius; Collins' lover, Angel, a street musician and drag queen; and Benny, a former member of the group who, after marrying into a wealthy family, has become their landlord. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves, and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical. Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award® for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, RENT has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.

In addition to unveiling plans for the first Frederick staging of RENT, Stock♦ing’s Artistic Director, Jordan B. Stocksdale, is proud to announce that Genevieve Williams has signed on to direct the production. Williams, a director, producer, and performer throughout the Washington, DC region, has also worked in New York City with producers ranging from Disney Theatricals to the producers of the original Broadway production of RENT, Jeffrey Seller and Kevin McCollum.

RENT, which has a book, music, and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, will play a limited engagement at The Way Off Broadway Theatre May 24 – 26, 2012.

Stock♦ing Productions, under the direction of its Founding Artistic Director, Jordan B. Stocksdale, is an independent theatre Production Company. Previous productions include A New Brain, The Rocky Horror Show, and Into the Woods. www.stockingproductions.webs.com
