McDaniel College theatre arts students perform in the world-premiere of "Wendell," loosely based on the play "Woyzeck" by Georg Büchner. Performances are Wednesday, April 15 - Saturday, April 18, 7:30 p.m., in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. (Note: the show is for mature audiences only.)

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, veterans, students and those with a McDaniel College ID. For ticket information, call 410-857-2448.

McDaniel visiting theatre arts lecturer John Moletress directs the play, which he adapted from Büchner's 1837 fragmented tragedy of a young, broken soldier and transported it to present day Charles County, Md.

"At the heart of 'Wendell' is war," Moletress said. "War in the literal, a father returning from a tour of duty in Iraq. War in the metaphorical, or the war inside us, longing for human connection. 'Wendell' plays very fast and loose with 'Woyzeck,' making tiny, gestural movements towards Buchner's play. Characters of 'Wendell' take breath from 'Woyzeck,' however they find themselves in the present day where the Maryland suburbs have replaced provincial Germany."

The cast includes senior Emily Wendler of Baltimore, junior Jennifer Litzinger of West Windsor, N.J., sophomore Adam Vaughn of Columbia, Md., and freshmen Bryan Bowen of North Beach, Md., Andrew Frascella of Rockville, Md., and Brandon Richards of Chesapeake Beach, Md.
