The Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway opened in 1996 as the Way Off Broadway Children's Theatre with an original musical adaptation of Rapunzel. Since then, it has become a unique family entertainment destination where children can see some of their favorite characters come to life on the stage. From Sleeping Beauty to Snow White, Jack and his beanstalk to the Three Little Pigs, they have all appeared at Way Off Broadway in original adaptation written specifically for the theatre. In 2005, The Children's Theatre was proud to have created and produced the world premiere production of Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree, based on Robert Barry's book of the same name. 2011 saw the rebranding of the children's productions as The Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway. This was also when there was a shift from adaptations of classic fairy tales to stage versions of popular children's books and movies -- many of which came directly from the Disney Vault. These new blockbusters were shows like Disney's 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella, Aladdin, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland; two incredibly successful runs of Pinkalicious - The Musical; Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer Live! Dora's Pirate Adventure; a premiere production of Molly Shannon's Tilly the Trickster; and the area's first production of Junie B. Jones - The Musical.

The Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway is a part of The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, which, under the direction of the Kiska Family since 2002, will celebrate its 25th Silver Anniversary Season in 2019. Since it first opened in 1995, the theatre has been a leader in the area's theatre community, proudly bringing both classic musicals, as well as regional and area premieres to the Frederick stage. Productions have included Monty Python's Spamalot, Noises Off, The Addams Family, Les Misérable, Sunset Boulevard, Legally Blonde, Dolly Parton's 9 to 5: The Musical, The Music Man, Jekyll & Hyde, Hairspray, South Pacific, The Drowsy Chaperone, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Full Monty, Mel Brooks' The Producers, CATS, The Wedding Singer, Evita, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, La Cage aux Folles, Guys & Dolls, Steel Magnolias, Annie, Bye Bye, Birdie, The King & I, ...Forum, Lend Me a Tenor, Joseph..., Blood Brothers, Mame, and 42nd Street. Way Off Broadway is also the home of a one-of-a-kind children's lunch theatre, offering entertainment for the entire family, giving children a chance to see their favorite characters live on stage. In addition to its regular season, the theatre produces a number of special events throughout the year including an annual Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus) and an interactive mysteries series. www.wayoffbroadway.com
