Community College of Baltimore County Announces April Events

Community College of Baltimore County presents an array of programs and events this April. The community is encouraged to help us celebration our 60th anniversary at our annual gala, titled"Rock & Roll and Remember - Celebrating 60 years." THE BALANCE: Work by Monika Andersson and Zoe Perry-Wood (The Gallery at CCBC Essex))

The Balance is an exhibition of images by two New England photographers steeped in the tradition of social documentary photography, Monika Andersson and Zoe Perry-Wood. Andersson's black and white pictures of drag queen festivals were made 25 years ago, while Perry-Wood's work is based in the LGBTQ community of present day. The narrative found in both bodies of work, although years apart, is strikingly similar. The Balance is the ebb and flow of living your life being true to your identify. Your private life becomes public out of necessity. It's a necessity to ensure that your rights and privileges and choices as individuals are granted and maintained. Curator: Robert Creamer

Dominique Christina is an award-winning poet, author, educator and activist. She holds five national poetry slam titles. Her work is greatly influenced by her family's legacy in the Civil Rights Movement and by the idea that words make worlds. Her poetry collections are: "The Bones, The Breaking, The Balm: A Colored Girl's Hymnal" and "They Are All Me." Her third book is titled "This is Woman's Work."

GITA LADD, CELLIST (Music Forum)

Superb cellist Gita Ladd has been one of the most sought after cellists of the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area for almost twenty years. For most of that time she performed as a titled member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Ladd will perform a fascinating solo cello recital, featuring works from the Baroque to the 20th century. She is a member of the UMBC music faculty and CCBC has been privileged to welcome her to our adjunct music faculty this year.
