Maryland-based theater production company, ArtsCentric, will revive the iconic 1970s rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" this October in a newly designed theater space located in The Best Western Plus Hotel & Conference Center (location of the former Toby's Dinner Theater of Baltimore - 5625 O'Donnell St. Baltimore, MD 21224).

Written by dynamic duo Tim Rice (lyrics) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (music), and borrowing from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, this captivating piece follows the last seven days in the life of Jesus Christ. Performances will run every Thursday - Saturday @ 7:30pm and Sunday @ 5:00pm from today, October 17th until November 2nd (suitable for ages 12+ and wheel-chair accessible). The production features Shaun Mykals as Jesus, Dan Sonntag as Judas, Shayla Lowe as Mary Magdalene, and is rounded out with a talented multi-cultural cast.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" opens with Jesus' much-anticipated arrival to Jerusalem. He and his radical ideas spark a movement that is celebrated by everyone except high priests and political figures in the occupying Roman Empire. In an attempt to deeply submerge audiences in the world of ancient Jerusalem, ArtsCentric will forgo conventional trends toward glitzy futuristic imaginings of the show, in favor a more traditional concept for costumes (Sierra Evans ) and scenic design (Jeff Harrison). The audience seating is built into the actual set with much of the action taking place on overhead platforms and within arms reach, making use of levels and fabrics for added visual texture. For a limited time, select theater-goers will even have the opportunity to be apart of the show through incentives offered in ArtsCentric's "Super Purple" package deal. The deal offers a "feature walk-on role" among other perks for purchasers of tickets to "Jesus Christ Superstar" and ArtsCentric's upcoming December production of "The Color Purple". Director Kevin McAllister notes, "We are excited about the opportunity to redesign this new venue, while exploring ways to draw audiences into the story both emotionally and physically. The audience is as crucial a component as the actor onstage, and the theatrical experience should be just as palpable as the story itself." Tickets for "Jesus Christ Superstar" are $25.00 and can be purchased online at www.ArtsCentric.net or for special group rates email: info@ArtsCentric.net
