The Collective, Baltimore's hub for dancers and choreographers, will present a collection of works entitled This is Home, featuring seven premier works crafted around the universal theme of home and inspired by the Imagining Home exhibit in the Patricia and Mark Joseph Education Center at the Baltimore Museum of Art. This is Home will run at Baltimore's Theatre Project, 45 West Preston Street, on Saturday, April 29th at 8pm and Sunday, April 30th at 3pm. The concert will feature works by the following choreographers: Samantha Hopkins, Martha Johnston, Adrienne Kraus Latanishen, Brittni Mann, Caitlin McAfee, Polly Mizani, Lynne Price, Gianna Rodriguez, Kristen Yeung and guest choreographers Iyun Ashani Harrison and Sarah Beth Oppenheim.

Since 1999, The Collective has called Baltimore home and has embraced as well as advanced the professional dance community in Baltimore. As a non-profit organization, The Collective carries out its mission of providing opportunities for dance artists through curated dance showcases, a series of Open Marley Nights for emerging artists/students, professional-level dance classes, and through the work produced by the seventeen-member Dance Company. In 2015, The Collective produced its annual concert of work at Theatre Project during the week of the uprising. Since that time, The Collective has focused on producing work that speaks to healing and repairing of our beloved home city.

As a company/collective, the work presented for This is Home comes from multiple perspectives in crafting dance works that define or embody home personally, globally, and universally. This collection of works also culminates a collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art in producing a series of free workshops for Open Hours @ the BMA on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 1pm-4pm. The workshops will blend dance and the themes of the Imagining Home exhibit.

Co-choreographers Lynne Price and Kristen Yeung create another chapter in the world of their 2016 duet If you'd rather leave with Here is my home. They contemplate the relationship between architecture, scale, and the body while exploring the place-making process, emotional space, and anatomy of "home."

Polly Mizani's work, The Threshold, gives an intimate look at the often-concealed pain and struggle that come along with love and commitment through a self-reflective duet.

In a distance collaboration with choreographer Sarah Joy Stallsmith (FL) and sound designer Arjun Bhamra (London), Cait McAfee creates Constellations using collaborative practices to navigate the relationship between geographical and emotional relationships.

Finding inspiration close to home, Adrienne Kraus Latanishen's quirky and fast-paced take on B'more living titled Hon Up to Hon Down pays tribute to iconic Baltimore through one whirlwind day in the city.

Guest choreographer Iyun Ashani Harrison, Artistic Director of Ashani Dances, delves into the childhood memories of his all-female cast in creating Collective Stories. The dancers' conceptions of "home" act at once as sources of joy and hurt.

Guest choreographer Sarah Beth Oppenheim, Artistic Director of Heart Stück Bernie, takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride with Roarshock Convoy, an intimate look at the current unsettling, political climate as it relates to home.

Special guest Sydnie L. Mosley of SLMDances returns home to Baltimore to present a solo work representing Sydnie's creative and research interests which lie at the intersections of modern dance, movement in the African Diaspora, spirituality, feminism, and literature.

This is Home will be presented on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 8pm and Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3pm. The performance will run in two acts with a fifteen minute intermission and includes a complimentary "meet-the-artists" post-performance reception.

In addition to This is Home, The Collective will host a series of Open Marleys, on Thursday, April 27 and Saturday, April 29. Similar to an "open mic night", the performance space will be open for choreographers to show work or work-in-progress with feedback from the audience facilitated and encouraged.
