Max O'Connell

Max O'Connell Max is currently a graduate student at the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University, and is a graduate from Ball State University with a BA in Film Studies and a minor in Theatre. He is a regular contributor for The Airspace, The Newshouse, and Green Room Reviews. He has also written for Yale’s Out of Order Magazine. When not writing about film, Max is probably watching, reading, or loudly talking about it, and he is an avid reader of film and theatre criticism. There's a marked difference between a tragedy and a wallow, and Scorched falls on the wrong side of that divide early and often. Syracuse Stage's production of Wajdi Mouawad's play skillfully renders its themes, but that's more to its detriment than to its credit when the play is question is this leaden and fundamentally dishonest.
