What happens after we die? Do ghosts exist? And can we talk to them? Suspend your disbelief on this dreamlike journey into the rift between the spirit world and charlatans. Written and created during an Icelandic winter under the Northern lights, The Divination Agency is a new theatre work by creative producer Bernadette Trench-Thiedeman featuring original artwork, puppetry and projected animation.

In Sri Lanka, at the turn of the 20th Century, Trench-Thiedeman's grandmother Eugenie began communicating with spirits through her three legged 'talking table' using a dead Portuguese soldier as her spirit guide. People sat at her table and requested advice from their departed loved ones, her small wooden table tapping out coded messages from beyond the grave.

Enter into the world of early 20th Century spiritualism, where levitations, teleportation and disembodied voices are de rigueur. Almost a century later Eugenie's granddaughter begins using a dictionary to divine the future. The story of her grandmother becomes known to her after this fact, and casts her relationship with the unseen into a new light.

Trench-Thiedeman lost her father (Eugenie's son) at an early age. This work is inspired by her attempts to make contact with him posthumously and weaves complex visual elements together to re-imagine his colourful yet troubled life.

Trench-Thiedeman says, "I want to share a collection of experiences that raise more questions than answers and to explore the different ways in which we deal with grief and loss.

Written, directed and performed by Trench-Thiedeman, featuring performer Kat Taylor and original musical composed by Claire Deak, The Divination Agency will premiere in Melbourne at the Butterfly Club From the 2nd- 5th of March. Bookings highly recommended.

Location: The Butterfly Club.

Times and Dates: 7pm, March 2-5th.
