MTC Education Takes Home Two Drama Victoria Awards

Melbourne Theatre Company was awarded two Best Performance Awards for its 2014 Education productions at the Drama Victoria Awards today.

The awards received were: Best Performance by a Theatre Company for VCE Drama Students for Yellow Moon and Best Performance by a Theatre Company for Primary Students for Marlin, MTC's co-production with Arena Theatre Company.

In acknowledging the awards, MTC Executive Director Virginia Lovett said, 'This is a wonderful achievement for our Education Department and the creative teams behind these two brilliant productions.

'Through all our Education initiatives, MTC strives to provide a program that broadens the experiences of Victorian students while inspiring them to nurture a passion for the arts and empowering them to pursue their own artistic goals.'

MTC Education Manager Suzie Thomas said, 'We're honoured to receive these awards for Yellow Moon and Marlin. Not only is it a credit to the companies and creatives behind the two productions, but it is fantastic motivation to continue developing and delivering the extensive Education Program we have worked so hard to establish at MTC.'

Yellow Moon by David Greig had a two week season at Southbank Theatre in May before touring to regional Victorian schools in association with Regional Arts Victoria. Marlin by Damien Millar was a co-production with Arena Theatre Company and played to both school and school holiday audiences at Southbank Theatre in September.

In 2015, MTC's Education productions are I Call My Brothers by Jonas Hassen Khemiri and The Boy at the Edge of Everything by Finegan Kruckemeyer.
