Disney's landmark musical THE LION KING must leave Melbourne at the end of October and all remaining tickets for the season are now onsale.

Julie Taymor's award-winning production opened at Melbourne's Regent Theatre in February this year and continues to play to packed houses.

THE LION KING remains ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. Since its Broadway premiere on November 13, 1997, more than 80 million people have attended 22 global productions in 20 countries, on every continent except Antarctica. Now in its 18th year, THE LION KING's worldwide gross exceeds that of any film, Broadway show or other entertainment title in box office history.

This homegrown production features the most multicultural cast of any Australian-produced stage musical to date, with performers from 13 countries across five continents.

The cast features representatives from Zimbabwe, China, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Brazil and the United States as well as principals from: New Zealand, Nick Afoa (Simba); South Africa Josslyn Hlenti (Nala) and Buyi Zama (Rafiki), and from Ghana, Terry Yeboah (Banzai). Other principals include Josh Quong Tart who plays Scar, Rob Collins as Mufasa, Cameron Goodall as Zazu, Russell Dykstra as Pumbaa, Jamie McGrgeor as Timon, Ruvarashe Ngwenya as Shenzi and Andre Jewson as Ed (who are both from Melbourne).

Translated into seven different languages (Japanese, German, Korean, French, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese), there are currently nine other productions of THE LION KING running concurrently across the globe, on Broadway; London's West End; Hamburg; Tokyo; Madrid; Basel, Switzerland; Mexico City; and on tour across North America and Japan.

THE LION KING will begin its first ever Perth season at the Crown Theatre from November 18, 2015.
