Helpmann Award winner Henri Szeps (Mother and Son) arrives in Melbourne to perform the hilariously dark comedy It's My Party (And I'll Die If I Want To) alongside Green Room Award winner Robyn Arthur (The Boy from Oz) and a fantastic ensemble cast. The show plays 5-6 July, 8pm at Athenaeum Theatre.

Aussie family man Ron is convinced he will die in 111 minutes, so he arranges a final send-off with his family. As the minutes tick away, Ron's party schedule unravels to reveal a dysfunctional family unit that is both outlandishly bizarre and utterly recognisable.

Szeps describes the show as a spectacular script about domestic insensitivities. "But it is also incredibly funny. Anything that can shed such light and depth into the everyday, and have us laughing till we cry, is OK by me. I need nothing more in life. Except my wife and kids, of course!"

From the writer that brought you the highly successful comedy Secret Bridesmaids' Business, ElizaBeth Coleman's deliciously funny and sweetly dark play It's My Party (And I'll Die If I Want To) is a tale of anxiety, absurdity and occasional terror. Like all great comedies, there is laughter... but the elbow jabbing at your ribs is that little bit sharper than expected.
