CinemaLive Presents COPPELIA In Theatres

CinemaLive, one of the market leaders in Event Cinema, are working in a partnership with The Australian Ballet to deliver The Fairy Tale Series, a series of three world premieres, to cinema audiences, allowing these world-class productions to be seen by an international audience.

The third and final production from The Fairy Tales Series, Coppélia will be shown in 200 cinemas across the UK on Wednesday 19 April for one night only.

This stunning production, captured at the iconic Sydney Opera House in December 2016 is a lovingly revived sparkling tale of magic and mischief, by The Australian Ballet's founding Artistic Director Peggy Van Praagh and Theatre Director George Ogilvie, exquisitely dressed by Master Designer Kristian Fredrikson.

Set to Leo Delibes' cheery score, Coppélia is a spectacular production, full of sorcery and masquerade, romance and high jinks - this is the funniest, sunniest ballet you'll see all year.

David McAllister, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet says: "It's exciting to take our company and performances from the stage to the big screen and to reach audiences we may not have otherwise reached. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Australia's national ballet company."

Synopsis

Swanilda and her merry boyfriend Franz live in a village with Dr Coppelius, a sinister magician and inventor who has created a beautiful doll that he sits on his balcony.

One day Franz sees the doll, Coppélia, and becomes infatuated with her. Swanilda and her friends decide to explore Dr Coppelius' house while he is out to see who the mysterious woman is, but he returns suddenly and Swanilda hides - pretending to be Coppélia. At the same time, the love-struck Franz finds a ladder and climbs into Dr Coppelius' house, who plans to steal his life force to animate his doll by pouring Franz a drink with a sleeping draught in it. When Franz passes out, Coppelius brings out Coppélia so Swanilda pretends to be a doll coming to life. Coppelius is delighted - until Swanilda manages to wake Franz and they escape from the house and are married, sealing their love with a tender pas de deux.
