Enigmatic singer-songwriter Bill Callahan will bring his astute musical observations on life, death, hope and sorrow to Hamer Hall for one unmissable evening this May.

Characterised by his soulful baritone voice and droll lyrics, Callahan's music is beautifully intense, understated and often experimental.

Recording under the band name Smog, Callahan has produced 16 albums with Chicago indie label Drag City and garnered an impressive cult following. His 2013 release Dream River was critically acclaimed, cementing his already solid reputation as a brilliantly lucid songwriter and singer.

As Rolling Stone best describes it: "his music is loose and rustic, his writing skirts the heart of the matter instead of bulldozing into it, and his careful deadpan imbues everyday statements with almost mystical resonance."

Callahan's brand of minimalist folk rock has received significant attention of late as fans clamour to see him perform live: last year's UK tour ended with two sold-out shows at Festival Hall. While in Melbourne, Hamer Hall will be the ideal space to showcase Callahan's character driven, intimate repertoire.
