Austin Playhouse continues their 2012-2013 Season with
Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde.

AUSTIN, Texas— Wilde is at his satirical best in the comic thriller that made him an overnight star. Young Lady Windermere is leading a charmed life, she’s happily married, a new mother, and about to celebrate her 21st birthday. When a friend suggests that not only is her husband having an affair with the mysterious Mrs. Erlynne, but that this notorious woman is about to turn up at the birthday ball, Lady Windermere’s trust in her husband is shattered. Will she have faith in the man she loves, or be driven into the arms of another? In a society obsessed with scandal, one false step could cost her everything.

Lady Windermere’s Fan was first produced at London’s St. James’s Theatre in 1892. It was Wilde’s fourth play, following Vera; or The Nihilists, The Duchess of Padua, and Salome. It was his first comedy and his first hit. It premiered on Broadway in 1893.
