BWW Reviews: SUFFER THE LONG NIGHT is a Riotously Funny Evening of Farce and Laughter Photos BWW Reviews: SUFFER THE LONG NIGHT is a Riotously Funny Evening of Farce and Laughter
(12/15/2014) - SUFFER THE LONG NIGHT belongs to that class of backstage comedies like NOISES OFF and FASHION: THE MUSICAL where the audience sees an actor playing an actor who is playing a character in a show. SUFFER THE LONG NIGHT first debuted in 2008 in Los Angeles and this production marks the first time it has been seen in Texas. Usually, these shows are about the performers plowing ahead in the face of everything under the sun going disastrously wrong. This variation on that theme is written by Greg Glienna & Mary Ruth Clarke, writers of the film "Meet the Parents". Glienna & Clarke take this genre to the max by having a fake "program" that wraps around the actual program and a pre-show that starts the moment you get your ticket. Once you've been asked "Have you had your flu shot?" the show has begun.

(12/10/2014) - In a little town known as New York City, on a tiny street known as Broadway, the Roundabout Theatre Company took the 1930's Cole Porter classic Anything Goes and revived it on the Great White Way. Starring Tony Winner (soon to be two time Tony Winner) Sutton Foster as Reno Sweeney, Broadway's sweetheart Laura Osnes in the role of Hope Harcourt, and the legendary Joel Grey as Moonface Martin. The show went on to win the 2011 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, awarded Foster her second Tony, and also took home the prize for Best Choreography before closing in July 2012. Two years later, the award-winning revival hit the road in the U.S. national tour, surprisingly (coming from someone who saw the revival on Broadway) rivaling its New York counterpart.

BWW Reviews: Ballet Austin's THE NUTCRACKER Proves Its Place as Austin's Resident Holiday Tradition Photos BWW Reviews: Ballet Austin's THE NUTCRACKER Proves Its Place as Austin's Resident Holiday Tradition
(12/8/2014) - If there was ever a timeless holiday tradition, specifically in the world of performing arts, it is The Nutcracker ballet. In fact, one of my first memories of the theatre was seeing the Houston Ballet with my mother and grandmother at the age of 8 (and hadn't seen it since). Whether you go for the sparkling costumes, the familiar music, the festive atmosphere, or the lovable story- most patrons of this ballet favorite have a story to tell or a memory to share, and Ballet Austin did a spectacular job of keeping that memory alive.
