Award-winning storyteller-monologist Mike Daisey returns to the McCullough stage to perform two powerful monologues over two nights.

Daisey has been called "the master storyteller" and "one of the finest solo performers of his generation" by The New York Times for his groundbreaking monologues which weave together autobiography, gonzo journalism, and unscripted performance to tell hilarious and heartbreaking stories that cut to the bone, exposing secret histories and unexpected connections.

On Wednesday, September 14, Daisey explores America's relationship with guns in his provocative piece The Story of the Gun. Throwing easy answers and partisan bickering out the window, he delves into the history of the gun and its place in our culture, cutting through the political static with hilarious comedy, brilliant observation, and pitch-perfect timing.

The following evening Daisey performs The Trump Card, which takes on the reigning world heavyweight of self-mythologizing, the short-fingered vulgarian who captured a nation's heart through bullying, charm, one-syllable explosions, and occasionally telling the brutal truth: Donald J. Trump. Daisey tells Trump's story from his earliest days, tracking him as he makes himself into a new American archetype-the very first rich man famous exclusively for being rich. Instead of dismissing Trump as a simple con artist and huckster, Daisey breaks down what makes Trump tick-and in doing so illuminates the state of our American Dream and how we've sold it out.

In addition to $10 tickets for primary, secondary, and college students, Texas Performing Arts is now offering a limited number of $12 tickets to active and retired military personnel for all 2016-2017 Essential Series performances (excludes Broadway and special engagements). A military id is required. For a schedule of upcoming 2016-2017 season performances, visit www.TexasPerformingArts.org.
