Georgia-born storytelling nonprofit, The Moth returns to the state where it all began - just in time for its 20th anniversary. The force behind the popular Moth Radio Hour and the Moth podcast kicks off its signature open mic series on March 13th at Dad's Garage (569 Ezzard St SE) in Atlanta. Doors open at 7PM; stories begin at 7:30PM. Tickets are $10, and are available on February 27th at 3PM via themoth.org/events/wonders-atlanta.

The Moth presents true, personal stories by luminaries in the arts and sciences, as well as an astronaut, an undertaker, a voodoo priestess and a retired NYPD detective, among many others. Each show is composed of simple, old-fashioned storytelling on thoroughly modern themes, by wildly divergent raconteurs; every story is told live on stage, without notes.

The Moth's signature monthly StorySLAM competitions are open mic events during which anyone can put his or her name into the "hat" to be randomly selected to share a story on a particular theme. Presented with media partner, Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), which airs the Moth Radio Hour Saturdays at 2 PM, the theme of the inaugural SLAM is "Wonder" - a nod to the March 2017 release of The Moth's second book, THE MOTH PRESENTS ALL THESE WONDERS: True Stories about Facing the Unknown (Crown Archetype; Hardcover; $25.00), which will be published in late March.

Those interested in participating in The Moth's premiere Atlanta StorySLAM should prepare a five minute story about life's knee-buckling moments; feeling small under the stars; meeting the love of your life; finding the toy before finishing the cereal box; expansive views or tales of ventures into uncharted territory, and how life was changed forever by what was found there.

Moving forward, the Moth's Atlanta StorySLAM will be held at Dad's Garage on the third Monday of every month. Tickets will go on sale one week prior to the event. For themes and other information, visit www.themoth.org.
