When the zombie apocalypse starts, where would you like to be? Out in the madness, fighting to survive, or safely housed in the most-talked about safety zone in the world? On August 13, Newnan Theatre Company is offering the chance to find out. In Carnival of the Dead, NTC's upcoming interactive murder mystery, guests will spend the evening in Newtopia, the most upscale housing development in the world, zombie-proof and secure beyond belief. At least, that's what the main character, Steven Crumpet, wants everyone to believe.

Crumpet's newest "dream world" is called "Newtopia," built specifically for the wealthy upper-class to stay out of the frightening world of the walking dead, safe and secure, living the best life money can buy. He has top chefs and five-star accommodations. He is so positive of his safe zone that he actually has zombies brought in as part of the 'carnival' in the basement of the building. People can throw wet sponges at the undead, have their picture made with zombies who have been rendered 'non-threatening," and can even gamble on zombies fighting over a, shall we say, hot meal.

NTC's artistic director, Tony Daniel, loves being a part of these murder mysteries. "We have been hosting these events since 1988, and they are always as much fun for our actors as they are for the audiences. They give actors the chance to work with Audience members rather than just performing for them. The Audience members are a part of the action, searching for clues, trying to take notes on all the various conversations, and trying to witness the 'nefarious' actions that take place."

"I also enjoy watching the audiences. Sometimes, groups of eight or ten come together, so every cast member has someone following them around all night. Others may come in groups of two or four, and they find themselves teaming up with other Audience members, trading information and clues."

This time out, the audience will be able to follow a reporter, a 'zombie hunter,' a scientist who is trying to teach and tame zombies to be more servile, as well as Crumpet himself and many more characters, throughout the evening. There will be clues hidden around the building as well as those the audience picks up throughout the evening. And, yes, there will be 'murders most foul,' as the well-to-do members of Crumpet's latest billion-dollar dream becomes a reality. After all, when there are zombies, there will be death.

There will also be prizes given to the audience member, or team of members, who solve the murders.

Tickets must be purchased by 5 pm on August 12, and there are a limited number of seats available.
