Jesus Christ Superstar, originally produced in 1970, was the first professional collaboration by the now famed writing duo Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Jesus Christ Superstar is unique in that it delves in to the relationship between Jesus and Judas in the days leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. Told mostly from the perspective of Judas, Webber and Rice expand on what is presented in the bible about the friendship and what it might be like to have a friend rise to kingly stardom overnight.

Jesus Christ Superstar has a ground breaking rock-opera score. Audiences will find that even now, four decades after its premiere, the music is still fresh, audacious, and vibrant.

The Lyric's production of Jesus Christ Superstar is being presented with a contemporary feel and is directed by Marietta favorite Alan Kilpatrick. Music direction by Amanda Morgan, and choreography by Ricardo Aponte. The towering set is designed by Lee Shiver-Cerone, with lighting design by Mary Parker. Finishing up the production design team are Amanda Edgerton on costumes, John McKenzie on Sound, and wig design by George Deavours.
