Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts will present Moving in the Spirit's Between Worlds on May 2, 2013 at 7pm. This sweeping fairy tale imagines four young people lost on a dying planet. Thrust together with little in common, they embark on an unexpected journey of self-discovery, reconnecting with forgotten values and learning to work together to restore harmony to the world. Conceived by award-winning poet Alice Lovelace, Between Worlds features student and professional dancers, live musicians, original music by M.U.G.A.B.E.E, lighting by Greg Catellier, set design by Sal Brownfield and design by The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur.

While this is Moving in the Spirit's third year presenting Between Worlds, the show has undergone some considerable changes. Dana Lupton, Artistic Director, explains, "The central theme of the work, which stresses the importance of embracing diversity and working together to make the world a better place, remains the same. However, in preparing for this year's show we discovered that our students have very strong opinions about issues confronting our world and values they feel have been forgotten or overlooked in favor of less substantial principles. To hear young people speak so passionately about what is important to them was so thrilling, the artistic team reconceived significant portions of the show."

One major change resulting from the young dancers' ideas is that the show's four main characters no longer complete their quest at the end of the show. Lupton shares, "The characters' journey continues, because in real life, we still have a lot of work to do. Instead of celebrating a new-found state of harmony as they did in previous versions of the show, the characters invite the audience to join them as they continue their mission to bring unity to the world. Audience members will literally be dancing in the aisles during the finale, invigorated as they carry the show's message with them out of the theater and into their every day lives."

Between Worlds will take place at 7pm on May 2, 2013, and is presented and sponsored by Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts, located at 80 Forsyth Street NW Atlanta, GA. Special guest artists include poet Alice Lovelace, musicians M.U.G.A.B.E.E. and professional dancers Blake Dalton, D. Patton White and Juana Farfán. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 13, and may be purchased at the door on the night of the event. Children under the age of 3 can attend the performance free of charge.
