Aurora Theatre returns for the sixth year for Lawrenceville's Prelude to the 4th Concert with the musical adaptation of Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Winner of 8 Tony Awards, Big River will begin at 7:30pm on July 3 on the grounds of the historic courthouse in downtown Lawrenceville.

Mark Twain's timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming and bring to life your favorite characters from the novel. Propelled by an award winning score from Roger Miller, the king of country music, this jaunty journey provides a brilliantly theatrical celebration of pure Americana. Following the concert is a brief fireworks display, accompanied by the Aurora Theatre orchestra playing the patriotic anthem Stars and Stripes Forever in a moving tribute on the eve of our country's Independence Day.

Aurora Theatre will be led in concert by Associate Producer and Resident Musical Director Ann-Carol Pence with a full orchestra. The cast features: Andy Meeks as Huck Finn, Eric Moore as Jim and Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director Anthony Rodriguez will portray a carpetbagger and con man simply known as The King. Freddie Ashley, Actor's Express Artistic Director, will direct a cast of some of Atlanta's top musical theatre talents. Bring the whole family for a picnic dinner and a show. The lawn seating begins at 5:30pm for the 7:30pm performance. Reserve a table for the best view and a chance to order exclusive catering packages from local restaurants.
