Paris' Théâtre du Châtelet has announced via their website that Kristin Scott Thomas will play Desiree Armfeldt and Leslie Caron will play Madame Armfeldt in Lee Blakeley's upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

The award-winning musical, inspired by the Ingmar Bergman movie "Smiles of a Summer Night", is scheduled to play the Chatelet from February 15th to 19th, 2010.

The 49-year-old actress, who lives in Paris, will play the part of prominent actress Desiree Armfeldt, a role held by Eva Dahlbeck in the Bergman film, Glynis Johns in the 1973 Broadway musical, and ElizaBeth Taylor in a 1977 movie based on the musical. To visit the Chatelet website for more information click here.

The 'Night Music cast will also feature, Lambert Wilson as Frederik Egerman David Curry as Henrik Egerman, Rebecca Bottone as Anne Egerman, Francesca Jackson as Petra, Nicholas Garrett as Count Carl-Magnus Malclom, Deanne Meek as Countess Charlotte Malcolm, Celeste de Veazey as Fredrika Armfeldt, Damian Thantrey as Mr. Lindquist, Kate Valentine as Mrs. Nordstrom, James Edwards as Mr. Erlanson, and Daphné Touchais as Mrs. Segstrom.

The New York Daily News revealed a number of months ago that Kristin Scott Thomas, the Olivier Award-winning star of Broadway's and The Royal Court Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Anton Chekhov's THE SEAGULL would star in the French production of Stephen Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music'.

The News featured an interview with the actress, in the chat they cover the subject of singing which leads to the news of her doing the classic Sondheim musical;

Jessica Biel, Colin Firth and Ben Barnes all sing on the soundtrack of "Easy Virtue." But no sign of you - why not? Are you tone deaf?

"I don't know why. I think I wasn't available. I've been incredibly busy doing one film after another and haven't had any downtime. Actually, I'm going to be doing [Stephen Sondheim's] "A Little Night Music" in Paris in the spring in English. In Paris, it's treated as an opera - they've never done anything like this before, as they don't go in for musical theater at all."

Kristin Scott Thomas, made her Broadway debut with THE SEAGULL, she won the 2007 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Arkadina. She received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in The English Patient, and has also been seen in memorable roles in such films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park, Random Hearts, Life as a House, The Horse Whisperer and Angels and Insects, among many others. Recent films include The Other Boleyn Girl, The Walker, I've Loved You So Long, Easy Virtue and Confessions of a Shopaholic.

The current Menier Chocolate Factory's production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A Little Night Music, which transferred to the West End in March, will now complete its run at the Garrick Theatre on 25 July as originally announced.

Trevor Nunn's critically acclaimed production, led by a cast including Hannah Waddingham as Desirée, Maureen Lipman as Madame Armfeldt, Alexander Hanson as Fredrik Egerman, Kelly Price as Countess Charlotte Malcolm and Jessie Buckley as Anne Egerman, has musical supervision by Caroline Humphris, set and costume design by David Farley, choreography by Lynne Page, orchestrations by Jason Carr, with lighting by Hartley T A Kemp and sound by Gareth Owen.

In April, it was announced that a revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is headed for Broadway. The production will be directed by Tony Award-winner Trevor Nunn, and will utilize the creative team behind the recent London production, which opened at the Menier Chocolate Factory before transferring to the Garrick Theatre on December 3, 2008. The new Broadway revival "rehearses in October 2009. Opens in December. Dates tentative," according to a recent Equity casting announcement.

The production will be produced by David Babani for Chocolate Factory Productions; Andrew Fell; and the Frankel, Viertel, Baruch, Routh Group. In addition to Director Nunn, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC will include Musical Supervision by Carolyn Humphris, Musical Direction by Tom Murray, Choreography by Lynne Page, General Management by Frankel/Green Theatrical Management and Casting by Tara Rubin Casting.

This will be the first Broadway Revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. The show made its premiere on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre on Feb. 25, 1973. The cast featured Len Cariou as Fredrik, Hermione Gingold as Madame Armfeldt, and Glynis Johns as Desiree. The score to the popular Sondheim musical includes the often-recorded "Send in the Clowns" and "Every Day a Little Death."
