Zeiders American Dream Theater (ZADT) in Virginia Beach under the leadership of Artistic Director Bart Kuebler and Executive Director Mary-Lacey Zeiders, is pleased to present a new original play reading as part of The Hatchery series. The Rendezvous is written by Manoli Kouremetis and directed by Kat Martin.

Molly Vessig has left her NYC flat and returned to her small-town Kentucky home after failing to write a follow up to her first novel. Now teaching at her alma mater, she is forced to reassess her life while serving detention with an odd boy who turns out to be a fan of her work. Together, she and her student challenge one another to accept their situations and face their fears.

Manoli's inspiration for The Rendezvous came from growing up in Central Kentucky where the "sickly sweet aroma of sour mash, the rolling hills and foggy ponds, and the acres of openness are always with me. Now, and even as a kid, the setting has always been both homey and creepy. That push and pull of the place inspired Molly's conflict in the play." Another inspiration for Manoli is the music that is discussed and played throughout the performance. He also states "Almost everyone at one time or another finds the place of their beginning as one of regression to retreat to when things get mucked up."

American Dream Theater's new theatrical works series, The Hatchery, is a series of staged readings of new plays and musicals. We are taking the normally private process of creating a new stage work and placing it in public view, simultaneously building an engaged, excited audience and creating a unique cultural experience in the heart of the city. This series utilizes a mix of professional, amateur, and student talent in both performing and technical roles, building strong bonds among the local performing communities at all levels and creating a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience unmatched in the Hampton Roads region.

Performance Dates are: February 26 and 27 at 8pm & February 28 at 2pm
