Winvian, Connecticut's highly sought after resort in the Litchfield Hills, has been singled out by the prestigious Zagat as one of "America's Top Restaurants in 2014," a distinction that rates a restaurant from "extraordinary to perfection."

The resort's restaurant achieved as follows toward a 30-point Zagat score in each of three categories: 27 points for food, 28 points for décor and 26 points for service.

Executive Chef Chris Eddy, who headlines the restaurant at Winvian, a whimsical, luxury retreat, has been with the resort since it grand opened in 2007. Chef Eddy previously worked in the galaxies of Daniel Boulud and Alain Ducasse. The 55-seat restaurant, which includes four private dining rooms, heretofore accessible to resort guests only, was opened to the public in 2008. The restaurant is open for dinner Wednesday-Sunday and for lunch Friday-Sunday. Reservations are required.

The eyes of sophisticated gourmets and discerning escapists, for whom Winvian is well suited, are on Eddy each evening as he implements culinary masterpieces utilizing only the freshest seed-to-table items, most of which are harvested from his two acres of onsite gardens, and locally sourced products. Chef Eddy also harvests his own honey from an apiary he began two years ago. Menus change regularly to ensure the freshest organic items always grace guests' plates. His menus seek to complement guests' moods with a cuisine that can delight, nurture and satiate.

In January of 2014, Winvian received top accolades from world-renowned AAA and for the third consecutive year has received "ten" Diamonds - five for the restaurant and five for the accommodations. Winvian is the only property in Connecticut which has AAA Five Diamonds for both dining and accommodations.

"We made the decision a few years ago to open our restaurant to the public. I think this Zagat accolade represents the positive experiences of our overnight guests as well as those who come here to dine well and to enjoy greater Litchfield," said Maggie Smith, proprietor of Winvian.

Winvian, located just two hours from NYC and 2.5 from Boston, houses 18 designer cottages and one suite set upon 113 acres of meadows and woodlands. Nightly rates at Winvian start from $699 for two a la carte (full breakfast included) and from $1,275 for two all-inclusive (full breakfast, room service, lunch, picnics, in-cottage wet bar, cocktails in the Games Room, dinner, after dinner petit-fours).
