MAY 2017 MAIN STAGE SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT

We're thrilled to announce The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett as our third production of the season, slated for spring 2017. The show will be directed by TIP veteran Jonah Hagans and performed at the intimate Theatre BonBon in Nakano.

In this transcendently powerful dramatization, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, The Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence--their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Each day of these two dark years, Anne's voice shines through: "When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!"

Adapted from Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl and edited by Otto Frank himself, this play has won the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, Critics Circle Award, and virtually every other coveted accolade in the theatre industry.

CALL FOR Second Stage PROPOSALS

WHAT?:
TIP launched Second Stage in 2009 with the goal of providing an opportunity for artists to present new and innovative shows in intimate, creative settings, and to offer Tokyo audiences exciting new theatrical experiences different from those in our Main Stage lineup. Second Stage productions take place throughout the year and are typically feature smaller casts in intimate, "black box" venues such as Our Space in Hatagaya or Theatre Trance Mission in Sangubashi. Over the years, Second Stage has also developed into a breeding ground for onstage and backstage talent, with many actors, designers, and directors going on to produce work on the TIP Main Stage and beyond.

We are currently accepting proposals for Second Stage productions. If you have a show (either published or original) that you would like to produce, we want to hear from you!

WHEN?:
Time slots are based on availability of rehearsal and performance spaces.

WHERE?:
Second Stage shows have been produced at severAl Smaller theatres around Tokyo. If you have an intimate venue in mind for your Second Stage show, please let us know!

HOW?:
Please contact secondstage@tokyoplayers.org for more information about Second Stage, including submission guidelines. We look forward to hearing from you!
