'War Ready' Receives New 2014 Marketing Push

Life in a military household can be challenging. According to the National Military Family Association, even though the number of active duty military with family responsibilities has decreased since 1995, the ratio of active duty members to the number of family members is now higher.

In her 2011 book, "War Ready: In My Father's Shadow" (published by iUniverse) author Mary Lou Darst shows how her family was impacted by her father's Army service - and how she found a new understanding of the military influence she felt in her childhood.

"My father was away on assignment often," Darst recalls. "When he returned, or we went to join him, my brother and I had grown up since he saw us last. He had changed as well, and we didn't know each other."

After her father died, Darst found her father's World War II diary. Upon reading its contents, she better understood her early relationship with him.

"War Ready" is a candid memoir of life in a family uprooted by international travel and ever-changing relationships. Accompanied by excerpts from her father's war diary, Darst's writings shed light on universal emotions felt by many members of the military and their loved ones.
