WICKED Plays to Over 57,000 Audience Members at Majestic Theatre

Broadway's biggest Blockbuster, WICKED, flew out of the Majestic Theatre on Sunday, March 30, after a 24-performance return engagement in San Antonio presented by Broadway in San Antonio. Over 57,000 patrons were in attendance this time around. The phenomenon returned by popular demand after record-breaking runs in 2009 and 2011, providing a significant impact on the local economy once again.

"It's no secret that Touring Broadway is one of the biggest contributors to San Antonio's local economy," says Mike Rilley, general manager of the Majestic and Charline McCombs Empire Theatres. "The Majestic Theatre takes pride in the fact that touring productions, like WICKED, not only entertain the community, but also give back."

"Wicked Webb," an event held at the Bonham Exchange following an evening performance, was produced by and featured WICKED company members in song and dance. It raised more than $10,000 to benefit the San Antonio AIDS Foundation and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

"Houston Street in San Antonio is the best street in Texas! "Productions like 'WICKED' have a lasting impact because it attracts new visitors to the downtown area including locals, who leave with a magnificent impression of a thriving arts district and intent to return."

Based on statistical analysis by 'The Broadway League', the New York City-based national trade association for the Broadway industry, the local economic impact of the 2014 engagement of WICKED in San Antonio can be estimated at over $19 million dollars.
