'Why Are You Nowhere?' - A Staged Reading at the Midtown International Theatre Festival

"What am I supposed to do?"

When an ambivalent mother visits her parents' cabin in the Maine woods, bringing along her mute daughter and her new teenage ward, an already tense reunion is interrupted by the arrival of two eerie strangers. As a storm rages outside, the group's anxieties flare, tensions erupt, and chaos encroaches, until the most vulnerable among them must choose between their responsibilities and the temptations of the unknown.

Featured in the cast are Caitlin Duffy, Christine Smith, Ryan Gilreath, Sam Disney, and more.

Written and directed by Ethan Warren, the multi-award-winning filmmaker behind the independent feature film West of Her-described by critic Dennis Willis as "the classic American road film by way of Terrence Malick"-Why Are You Nowhere? is the recipient of the 2016 Inkslinger award, and will have its world-premiere full staging in February 2017 in Louisiana.

While the skyline currently glitters with theatre festivals, there was a time when the Midtown International Theatre Festival was one of only two! John Chatterton has helped set the gold standard for presenting new and exciting independent theatrical works in New York. This year - with a booming variety section, a prominently-placed Short Play Lab, a burgeoning Short Film Lab, nearly 60 productions - with a record number of musical presentations (including an opera) - as well as an astounding number of international works, the 17th Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival once again proves itself to be one of the best reasons to stay in New York in July!
