The cast and crew of the new off-Broadway musical LAZARUS were devastated to learn of yesterday's news that the production's co-writer, David Bowie, had passed away from liver cancer at the age of 69.

A statement posted to the show's official website reads: Everyone at NYTW and Lazarus is deeply saddened by the loss of one of the great artists of our time. We are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Bowie on his theatrical piece, Lazarus, and we look forward to honoring his work onstage as Lazarus plays its final performances.

LAZARUS star Michael C. Hall told the New York Times that he and his fellow cast mates were stunned by yesterday's news. "He was a very private person -- it wasn't something he announced to any of us." He continues, "His passing certainly informs the experience of this recording session and will inform the experience of performing the show as we continue to do it."

Below, watch LAZARUS star Cristin Milioti perform a moving rendition of the 1972 single, "Changes" from the show.

About LAZARUS: Inspired by the novel THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH by Walter Tevis and directed by Ivo van Hove, LAZARUS began previews on November 18 and officially opened December 7, 2015 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003) for a limited run now through Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
