When the curtain falls on FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and the villagers of Anatevka find themselves forcibly uprooted into homeless refugees, many of them found their way to America on boats that funneled immigrants into lower Manhattan after processing at Ellis Island.

About 40% of Americans are descendants of people who came to this country via the port of New York says Catherine A. Daly, Director of the American Family History Immigration Center at Ellis Island.

Three individuals who are part of that 40% are currently in the cast of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF's hit Broadway revival. Michael C. Bernardi, who plays Mordcha, Alexandra Silber, who plays Tzeitel and George Psomas, who appears as Avram, were invited tour the Ellis Island Museum to look up their own immigrant ancestors.
