Gob Squad's new presentation at The Public Theater, BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES, is cast with children enclosed in a room that separates them from the audience with one-way mirrors, allowing patrons to see inside but letting them see only their own reflections.

As audiences watch them amusing themselves in a makeshift playroom with games, books and a TV set, there's the sense that we're about to see some kind of scientific study, but the UK and Berlin-based company is in the habit of using video and unorthodox theatrics to play with an audience's perception of reality.

This video montage offers a taste of the unique theatre piece, BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES.

UK and Berlin-based Gob Squad's last show at The Public was an Under the Radar Festival sensation. This season, Gob Squad returns with the ambitious and poignant BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES, created over the course of the past two years with 9-14 year olds from around New York City. From behind the safety of one-way mirrors, the audience witnesses seven lives lived in fast forward, from age ten to eighty. As the children peer into the future and nostalgically back at their recent past, they prepare to leave childhood behind forever. A must-see experience from this internationally acclaimed theater collective.

The Belgian version of BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES was produced by CAMPO (Belgium) and premiered in 2011.

Music featured in video "Max Flashback" by Lee Rosevere.
